Has anyone tried booking travel insurance via the Moneysupermarket site as advised in the Travel Insurance Article?
I got an alert saying 'Information from this secure page will be submitted to a page that is not secure on https://www.moneysupermarket.com.
Submitting sensitive information is strongly discouraged.'
I was going to buy a Virgin Money travel policy but it put me off so I went direct to the Virgin Money site. They wanted twice the original premium that Moneysupermarket quoted !!!0 -
Hi,
I will be going on my first holiday in May with the family (partner and 2 kids) for 2 weeks in Cyprus. Looking at holiday insurence (Single trip), and I have decided to go for Tescos at £34.81 for their standard insurence with £50 excess on everything. Now before I went ahead, I thought I would check the moneysupermarket site and I found travel insurence from Virgin Monday for £9.70!
Without trawling through all the key facts, is there a reason why there is such a big price difference? The excess by Virgin Money is £100 - £150, surely can't account for this. Is there some kind of catch with Virgin's travel insurence?0 -
You will need to compare the policy wording, not just the key facts, to ensure it covers what you need it to.0

Thought I would post this in case it helps someone. I was looking for worldwide annual travel insurance for myself and my husband who is 65. Virgin cover age 65 without loading the premium, the wording is 65 and under. I got annual worldwide travel insurance for £58 the two of us - bargain as this will still be covering my husband when he is 66. I got this through Moneysupermarket. We don't have any pre-existing medical conditions but still good price.0

First tip is ask your Doctor to give you a copy print out of the summary of your medical history - I don't think I'd declare more than the Insurance Company will find out from your medical records - and it's probable, that not every toothache since you were 2 years old is included.:D
Declaring complicated medical conditions, unless you are a medic, is very difficult and often unreliable. In my case and the case of my wife, neither of us can get travel insurance at less than £ 1,000 per single trip each. We have to limit our travel to Europe, and the use of our EHIC cards.
This means we have no cover for cancellation or losses of baggages, so we never take anything valuable.
Are we covered as driver and passenger (2nd party) in a hire car? I just don't know. The third party (the guy we are going to hit) is covered and the car is covered - but are we, when the helicopter rushes us to hospital?:(
The whole situation worries me sick, but its almost better to KNOW you have no insurance, and act accordingly?0 -
On pre-existing medical conditions.
Perhaps this is the reason that Insurance brokers still exist?
Take your problem and documentation along to him/her and ask them to recommend a "bespoke" policy for what you actually want - I don't know if this will work, but try speaking to someone in the back office with connection to the underwriters, ask them to recommend a (couple) of policies. At least if the insurance were not to pay out, there might be a "comeback" against the broker's professional indemnity insurance. (ie them might be keener to make a settlement).
This is what I intend to do next.0
