we have privelege home insurance(platinum version) which includes travel insurance.
any comments about it?-is it good enough, especially for travel to the u.s.a?

You'd also need to make sure that any pre-existing medical conditions have been declared, or the insurance will be invalid.

Once declared most insurance companies will exclude situations which they consider arise from these conditions, however it is possible to get them included with a few companies.

Once declared most insurance companies will exclude situations which they consider arise from these conditions, however it is possible to get them included with a few companies.

But if you don't declare them, you'll certainly find yourself with no cover for anything arising from those conditions - and quite possibly no cover at all. You'll only find out in the event of a claim, of course - and it could be for tens of thousands of pounds.

Most companies (and probably this one) will offer to cover pre-existing conditions, but frequently at a high price, depending on what it is. Things like asthma, for example (unless it's serious asthma) may cost little or nothing, but heart-related conditions often cost a lot.

Pointless saying nothing, though - you might as well not have the insurance at all. :)
  • Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company that covers for 90+ days with a pre-existing medical condition (asthma)?

I have not had any problems for years with my asthma and am on no medication, is it worth going for standard insurance and getting it excluded?

Would Backpacker insurance (as I will be taking multiple trips within Europe, at least 1 weekend trip plus 3 months in Spain (which I know has high medical costs)) be a cheaper option? If so can anyone recommend a company/policy?

    Thanks so much!
  • Hi

Ive searched the thread but cant find any recommendations on "independent traveller" or "indirect" travel insurance. My girlfriend and i have booked a multiple destination trip to Dubai, Hong Kong, Bangkok and two islands in Thailand. I have booked the flights and each hotel separately and have prepaid for each. What is the best policy for covering against the cost of all these should we not be able to go, flight delays, missed connections etc. I may be going to the US in the summer as well so looking at an annual policy for couples which can be used individually if we wish. If anyone has done any research in this area your advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Travel Insurance for Medical Tourists

I am going to India for cosmetic surgery and want to beef up my travel insurance to cover me for any mishaps whilst I am there. I understand most travel insurance policies don't cover you for this and I do understand why.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of insurance and can you recommend any companies.

For the avoidance of doubt I am not interested in bog standard travel insurance because I doubt I will be covered as the risks must be much higher if you travel to a foreign country for an operation.

    Many Thanks

    Hi guys,

Going to Spain on Sunday for a week.

I already have a worldwide annual policy, but have not applied for the E111 card as thought travel insurance would be better.

Do you need both, or will my travel insurance cover be fine

If you have full cover via your annual policy, you don't actually need the EHIC, which replaced the E111 (unless your policy stipulates that you should have one - some do, but not many). Might as well get one, though (free, and worth having) - apply online:
