  • Have mentioned this before - EHIC+, which is listed for over-65s has changed since I took it out last year, and I think the change could be expensive! I think people should be made VERY aware of this so that they can make an informed decision.

Up until June (I think it was) you were not covered for EHIC expenses but you WERE for any unavoidable additional medical expenses (this could include call-outs, medical transportation, and of course the NON-refundable element of many EHIC-related charges (eg in France you can only claim back 75% of the costs of hospital treatment - the other 25% can still amount to a lot of money!).

Now, the policy does not cover medical expenses of ANY kind (it does still cover associated expenses, such as NON-medical care, repatriation for example).

So a serious accident or illness in Europe could prove VERY expensive if this policy is relied upon. Mine runs out just after my trip to France shortly and I am having to look elsewhere for more suitable cover. (This is my reading of the policy changes, the disclaimer on their site, and what seemed to be a clear email from EHIC+ - if anyone has any conflicting information i would of course be VERY interested).

    Otherwise please be aware!!

Recently done an Over 80 travel insurance for a friend with InsureForAll.....unbelievable £40 and my friend declared a pre-condition and it went up to £56. Still cheap. Single trip.

It's possible, of course, that the reason for the 'unbelievable' price is that the underwriters are based in Gibraltar:

    Registered Office
    Professional Travel Insurance Company Limited
    Suite 935,
    Europort,
    Gibraltar

I wonder how good they are at paying out? They could be fine, but I tend to be wary of relatively unknown companies that don't have to worry too much about the value of their 'brand'.

  • any advice on which policy covers a DIY holiday. We are a family of 3 - 32, 26 and 6. We're going to Cairo for 4 days and then Sharm for 10. Have booked all flights and hotels direct.

    Thanks in advance.

    Nick.

Most, if not all, policies will cover you. See above thread.

I'm about to go on holiday with my 70 year old neighbour. Unfortunately her (adult) daughter was taken into hospital 2 days ago. I'm sure she won't go away if the daughter is still hospitalised (and who could blame her?). I'm not prepared to go away on my own for 2 weeks. Her insurance will cover her cancellation - if it comes to that, but am I covered? Her daughter is not a family member, nor a work colleague and these are the categories covered under my Post Office insurance policy. Does anyone know if I'll be covered for cancellation in the event that we don't go?:(

It's going to depend entirely on the wording of the policy in relation to 'travelling companions'. Which Post Office policy do you have?
