Hello there,
My boyfriend received a letter from Mackenzie hall today requesting him to urgently contact them regarding a personal matter. Since my partner has had financial problems I could guess what the personal matter was.
My partner was bankrupt a little bit less than a year ago and I was wondering can they still demand him to pay some old debt?
What if the debt they are after is some that he did not remember to write as a part of his bankruptcy?
I am really worried here. We have a small baby and already really short of money. We are paying anything extra to the official receiver.
Can anybody help? What should we do? We haven't called them yet.0 -
If it wasn't included in the bankruptcy then I would assume the satute barred time scales would apply. How long ago did he last pay/acknowledge the debt? If it's over 6 years ago then just ignore them completely.
Don't worry at the moment, the "we need to speak to you about an urgent matter" letter is the one they send to get you on the phone where they can threaten you with all sorts. Wait until they write to you with details about what the debt is for, once you know you can deal with it then.
Definitely, definitely don't call them. Once you know what the debnt it for, all correspondance should be in writing etc.0 -

It would still be included. All his liabilities that pre-date the bankruptcy order are covered by that order.
Liabilities incurred since, are not.
There's no way that MH would be chasing a recent debt. So he can safely contact them and tell them to @%%* off, or ignore them. Either way, nothing to worry about.0 -
Hello again,
Thank you so much for your help, that has eased our minds somewhat. The debt is an old one for sure so we shouldn't have anything to worry about then. We won't call them but just wait for their next move if there will be one.
Best wishes!0 -
Jeepers, MSE is useful!!
I have just had a text saying, Call Andrew at Mankenzie Hall on 08444 115606 quoting reference ******0 -
They ignore everything and try to collect on debt anyway - mine is in an IVA but they keep mithering me - GrrrWhen looking at the climb in front of you, don't forget to look back once in a while and see how far you have come:j
and remember...
All the worrying in the world won't change anything...so breathe:beer:0 -
I had a missed call from a number I didn't recognise last month, followed by a text message asking me to contact Mackenzie Hall. After reading the advice on MSE, I ignored them but today I received a further text message and a letter asking me to contact them on a "personal matter".
To my knowledge, I have always been completely debt free throughout my life and a recent check of my Experian file has come back completely clean. These people are clearly fishing here. (Incidentally, updating my credit file with Experian is obviously how MH got hold of my address!)
Can anyone advise me on what to do next? Do I just ignore this letter and wait for them to contact me again with details of whatever they're trying to pin on me?0 -

I was sat in the car pondering why they would text me, no bad debts, debts, yes, but never missed payments....
I was sat on the M1 with it running throught my mind, so I rang them, asked them why they had text me, quoted my number etc, turns out a, now sentanced fraudster within the family has passed them, or someone has passed them my number!
I however never confirmed my name, and actaully confirmed I did not know the person the operator named.
Lets hope this is the last of it.
Actually a very simple (so far... end.)
good luck to all those who have been chased.0 -

Don't call them - you'll find plenty of info on why that is.0
