I've been pestered by these people for a couple of months ago. To give you a bit of background, recently I have had to change jobs with my employer and as a result £600 ish a month down on what my salary and commission were. I've registered with CCCS and have helped me send letters to my debters.
Weirdly enough McKenzie Hall have been in contact regarding a debt on an old pc pre 2000 for around £230. Now this original debt was with Cabot as he explained on the phone. They are quite rude and abrupt, and stupidly agreed to pay £1 by standing order each month. He moaned saying it would take years to pay off, explained my financial position and said take it or leave it. Now having read the thread on here and that the debt is over £10, can I now back out of this ? They are still ringing even though I've paid the first month and have been ignoring the phone.
Any advice on this one ? Can I now advise them on how old the debt is and stop payment or is that it now they have got me ?0 -

Unless things have changed in the last year or so it entails a long wait.. MH don't/or didn't have anybody that left the office and went anywhere it's all phone calls and letters, they have no doorstep collectors.
I haven't looked through the full thread but i'd be amazed if any posts every actually mention someone from MH actually attending their premises.0 -

Before you current payment how long had there been since you last either made a payment of acknowledged the debt in writing. If as you say it was pre 2000 and they have only just contacted you (so over 10 years since last paid) you could still write and say the debt is statute barred (6 yrs without payment of debt acknowledgement). Once a debt has had one period to make it statute barred it is barred forever, they can ask for the money once, but as soon as you point out its barred they have to stop asking. This is not reset by making a payment, and you can choose to pay the debt anyway should you wish, but legally they can't persue it.

Hi all
Same old same old with me as so many others, getting letters and texts from Mackenzie Hall about a debt.
As per usual whenever I get a new letter from some chancers who've taken over one of my debts I send out a standard letter saying that because of my situation (no longer work after a long stretch as incapable of work and now am a carer for a child with special needs) there is not a chance of anything being paid back and taking me to court would be a waste of time cos they'd come to that conclusion too.
Usually this does the trick and I don't hear from them again but Mackenzie Hall have replied asking for a Financial Statement.
Should I send one off or just ignore them? Has Mackenzie Hall ever taken anyone to court, doesn't seem like it as far as the posters on this forum and others say? The debt they are talking about will soon by coming up to its 6th birthday so I'm worried about any further contact with this company over this as it may be classed as acknowledging the debt.
I think I did mention the name of the original creditor in my letter, but don't think I acknowledged owing them anything, so not sure whether I've dropped myself in it as far as getting it classed as Statute Barred.
What is everyone's opinion?

I'm a few months ahead of you on this one having received the 'home visit' letter around october time. Basically do nothing. MacKenzie Hall are scum and they are fishing for a response.
In a couple of weeks you'll receive another letter, then a third one, then they'll go away. You will not receive a visit. In a couple of years they may try again. This is their second attempt to get to me in around 2-3 years.
Really it's about time someone put these people in prison. They don't just buy up old debt, I believe they simply make stuff up which makes it fraud at least. The details on my letters from them have my middle initial which I never ever use. In fact apart from my birth certificate the only place I've ever seen it was on the electoral role.
Everytime I receive anything from them I scan it and post it to trading standards and anyone else who may listen.0 -
That makes me feel better, I have received a letter from them today saying they are coming for a Doorstep assessment and then maybe to court. I have been in a state about it all day, as I am in a Debt management programme and I have left it with them. I phoned MacKenzie Hall and they said they wont accept anything from a debt management company.
They are so rude, and threatening!0 -
I owed £295 to a company and Mackenzie hall started sending me letters saying I need to pay otherwise I will get a CCJ. I called them and offered to make a payment of £30 a month and they said (in a very rude and aggresive manor) they wouldn't except it. I told them this is all I can afford to pay. They said again they couldn't accept this and could only accept the full offer before they took it further to court. I told them that a court would agree this is all I can pay and if they don't wish to accept my offer then I won't be paying the debt.
I moved house and after a year I started receiving letters to my new address saying about CCJ's and door collections. Once again I ignored this.
This month I received a letter stating that due to it being Christmas and understanding these difficult financial times they can accept a final payment of £104.20 with no need of further payments and the debt cleared making a saving of £190.80.
I have paid the monies into their Bank of Scotland account with cash as I didn't trust them with my card details.
Anybody have any ideas why the sudden change in attitude and why they would accept alot less than owed?0 -
Because they probably bought the original debt for about £3.0
