I had them on my case today - I stupidly rang them cos Im having trouble with my debt management company and I assumed it was something to do with that, so I needed to give details asap.
Turns out it was a JJB store card from like 2000 - I have no memory of anything prior to about 2005 after a breakdown around then so I simply said I wasnt acknowledging I owed it as I had no recollection, she then told me last payment was made in 2001 and theres certainly been no contact since before 2005 as the address they had I left in 2003. I said quite calmly its statute barred then, she seemed half human which was a shock  she said 'ok, we'll state to the client you believe it to be statute barred and mark it accordingly.' have they gone soft????*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Nah, they've probably realised they never get anywhere with SB debts.0

I had a car on finance with Credit Acceptance Corp back in 2000 and in 2002 I wrote off the car in a nasty accident. I informed CA by phone that there was no car anymore and they haven't chased me for the money up till now, through Mackenzie Hall, they're chasing me for £4700, no CCJ's have ever been logged nothing is showing on my credit file either, Infact I have a good credit score. When I recieved the first letter I was shocked, angry and I called them quoting the reference and gave them my birth date, I also told them that I believe that the debt is "stature barred" and I asked them to send any evidence if they believed otherwise. Yesterday I recieved another letter chasing the debt so I'm sending them a copy of the limitations act and confirming that I do not accept any debt, by registered mail. Can they do this?? Is this legal?0

A month ago I received a letter from mackenzie hall asking me to contact them regarding a 'personal matter'. I didn't respond to them at all, and on Friday evening I received another letter demanding I pay approx £800 by noon 22 Nov (tommorrow!), or further action will be taken.
I'm not entirely sure what this is for, but I did have an unpaid credit card a few years ago. I haven't heard anything about it in 3 years until now. I tried getting a credit report from Equifax, but it told me I had to call them for security reasons, and they are closed on the weekend!
I'm so angry they MH have given me such a short deadline, without even confirming that I am the right person. I don't know if this is normal practice, but I will definately be making a complaint to the OFT.
At the moment I feel like I have no choice but to pay the money. Sorry if this seems long winded, but I'm a bit panicky at the moment, and just wondered if anyone had any advice.0 -
The letter I received yesterday was sent out on the 17th November and they're requesting payment by the 24th November! Very underhand and extremely unprofessional. I'm very sceptical about their work ethics. They seem desperate. :mad:0

As I have said before, go to this thread and force them down the FOS route. It will work in most cases though you may have to explain to the FOS adjudicator that the Office of FAIR trading has said they are being UNFAIR so you expect FOS to accept that view and uphold the complaint.
Harassing your children about your debts is a breach of confidentiality and if they are under 18 I would also go to the Police.0 -
So, I have logged a complaint with Consumer Direct and also the OFT I have also had a conversation with the National Debt line help ctr and as the crow flies, they aren’t getting a penny cos it's Stature barred! I also read on the OFT website a press release post regarding "requirements" that MH have to follow and I fall into that category nicely. If I hear anymore from them I will keep logging my complaints - They need to learn to back off and stop harassing people! I recommend anyone in a similar situation logs such complaints too otherwise these people will keep on preying on the less fortunate and making people’s lives a misery! They’re a very desperate company and appear the chance anything!0

Hi everyone.
Ive had a letter from these people, addressed to my maiden name which, long story, i married and lived abroad for 4 years and returned about a year ago to the uk. Ive never used my maiden name since i returned, have new bank accounts etc etc as everything was closed on leaving the country, and as far as i am aware no monies were owing to anyone. Have recieved a letter from them saying i must pay them by a week after the date of the letter, but the letter is dated 2 months ago, and the deadline is 2 months ago :rotfl:so must have got lost in our great postal system! Im very confused, think i shall just ignore it? its dated 2 months ago and they havent seemed to have sent another? Shall i ignore or ring them and take the risk that maybe we did leave something behind?
On another note, years and years ago a debt collector rang my house looking for someone with a similar name to my husband but not my husband, when after about 5 phone calls i said look mate, u keep ringing i keep telling you its the wrong number, he called me a stupid f ing b**ch and hung up on me, so i am rather dubious about phonging debt collectors these days :rotfl:0
