Torndao.
I have never got up in the night to train any of the dogs I have had, I used the paper method ( much berrated on here I know) but, it has always worked for me, but then I have almost always had toy dogs, but they still need training.I always took them into my room at nights and not many accidents as I never feed any dogs after our tea time, thus less need to wee and poo! It does take a little longer but like babies, they all have their EUREKA moment and used their spot in the garden. They also learned from each other- had 4 different breeds at one time!
However Chico my x yorkie/papillon has proved to be the slowest learner in this dept of all of the dogs I have had,I have never had a x breed before but have had yorkies- must be the papillon side of him that is a bit on the slow to learn , as he isn't learning from his mate, a 10 yrs old Bichon Frise.....who can wee for England LOL!
They both sleep together in my room on the Duvet bed they have and never ,ever wake me up even if they wake before me and I know they do as I can hear them playing quietly together.
However Chico can yap for England, he has a very loud sharp yap, he can hear the foxes and the cats and goes crazy to be let out to guard his territory, just hope the neighbours don't start complaining.
I now have to think about having him castrated with him being a x bred dog.
Twinklie- I think your husband is the one who needs training in your house- LOL , he will confuse Belle if he carries on not sticking to her routine and she will take longer to house train, is he jealous of her getting all the attention? You live..You learn.:)0 -
No I don't think he is. He just seems to think she's got something against him. I don't understand what his problem is to be honest. I don't give her loads and loads of attention...he probably gives her more than I do. The attention I give her seems to involve training pretty much and he's not normally there anyway!! Which wormer and flea treatment are you using? Where do you get them from? How much?
I'm using Drontal and Frontline...I've got it all from the internet because it's so much cheaper than the vets.
Is there anything you have for little Boris (or other's because I know we have our lurkers) that you couldn't live without! Mine is definitely tripe sticks. Also what food do you feed and how much does it cost? Just interested in pricing things up today!
Also are you getting insurance? Which one you getting and how much will yours cost? Mine is well expensive because of the breed she is. Expensive Belle...she likes the finer things in life!! Ha ha.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

I use Drontal+ but generally don't bother with flea treatment as they never seem to have any.
Both of mine are on Chudleys sensitive but only because the boy has a delicate bowelonly takes a bit of pizza crust & he's got the squits!
Try her with a pigs ear, will keep her busy for ages.
For insurance look for lifetime cover, costs more but in the event she becomes diabetic for example the insurance will pay for the treatment for as long as...Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Yeah thats what I've gone for. I've been refered to the underwritters though because of the antibiotics she had to have...so I'm not sure if we'll get it or not. If we do, you know there will be exclusions. Doh!Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Hi Renegade
Boris goes in the kitchen at night and has his crate open with puppy pads down, I dont get up to him in the night cause hes not waking us up (which Im happy about), hes only weeing now on the pads. Like you I dont let him eat past 6pm thats helped stop the pooing at night. It worked for people before crates became popular so Im sure we will be ok. Trouble is Im like a new mum and wake at the first sound from him and struggle to get back to sleep with these light mornings and birds.
Twinklie Ive only had to give Boris one worm table which I got from the vets and will get another next week. Im going to ask my mates advice on which as shes a vet nurse. Weve had a harness for Boris for a week now and hes so funny walking round the garden in it.
Bet you could slap your DH, pups are just like babys and need to know whats going on, routine is what helps them understand. Your not pandering to Belle, your training her and doing it right from what youve said. Ive found Boris is more attached to me that the rest of the family, even though I have to tell him off and be firm with him. I think its because he now sees me as the head of the pack (and I do like to think of myself like that):)
Food wise the vet gave me Arden Grange dried food and told me to put him straight on it, no slow change over. I was feeding him Pedigee wet puppy food given from the breeder, but he wasnt eating very well. Changed straight away and he eats fine now. Treat wise he has various dogs treats that I use for when I go out for a hour or two. Try not to give at anyother time, so he doesnt have to many. The whole family are under strick instructions never to give him any food when we are eating, but today my DD dropped a hot dog and it was gone in seconds. Gosh we are suffering now hes asleep on the sofa next to DD and he stinks!
Ive got insurance from sainsburys with Quidco they were doing £70 cast back:)0 -
I've just had her out round the yard on her lead again...funniest thing ever. I'm well looking forward to taking her out. Our first walk is going to be on my birthday actually! So there is a nice present for me. I've just decided to cut her down to 3 meals a day from 4. So I'm hoping her appetite picks back up. She's certainly savaging me as though it is!
I'm having lots of fun with her today - had to give myself a stern talking to in order to remind myself to put her back in her play pen or she'll get all out of routine. It is funny though, DH was out and she was good as gold. He came home and she's just turned into a little terror! :rotfl: Who panders I wonder??
I had to give her a bit of a telling off (i.e. I ignored her and left the room) because she was getting so nippy. She's being really soft with me now but attacking DH because he fights back. Honestly, I give up. Thank God my mum (who is her during the day Mon - Fri carer) is just as strict as me.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Twinklie- I had a lot of problems finding the food that Chico would eat, tried most of them that peeps on here suggested, both wet & dry.
Have now finally found he likes Arden Grange Puppy/Junior dry food, I paid £8. 99 2. 5 kgs, as he is only a very small dog I think this will be economical as well as he only has a small stomach. He has 1/2 a Tesco dentastik to help keep his teeth free from tartar each day, plus small treat with his last meal- he is on 3 meals a day now.
He has a harness as well because he is so small and prone to broken bones if roughly handled, a harness is better for him than a lead,I have 2 leads, 1 of those extended ones that lets him run ahead of me when it is safe, and an ordinary one if we are going 'pavement' walking, he is very good at walking 'nicely' just by my side.
realise none of this is going to help you with Belle as she is a much larger dog!You live..You learn.:)0 -
Hi, i havent read alll the post you have all written, but have you managed to sort her night time seperation anxiety?0
-
Yeah she has a whine (not a panic bark but more of an "Oi! I'm not tired yet!" complaint) for about 5 minutes then goes to bed until about 5 ish when she needs to toilet. She doesn't whine at all when we go out of the front door (we've recorded her)...but if we go upstairs she'll moan to try and get us to come back down! She's a clever one.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25
