    Morning all.
Have been following the progress of the 2 pups- Amibel and Boris as I have a 6 month old puppy.
He is not fully house trained yet, dispite having a 10 yr old dog to show him the 'ropes' and following all the advice on here,I must say that he is the most difficult to house train I have had and I have had 9 dogs! He does not bark for me to let him out in the garden but he does come to me with 'that look' on his face so I know he needs to go out, he never does his business outside during walks preferring to do it on the kitchen floor , not even on his paper when my back is turned- I now let him straight out into the garden on our return, I am a patient owner as I know he will 'get it' in the end they all do eventually!
He is a x Yorkie/Papillon and is so lovable and funny.
In this hot weather I have been giving them cold water from a bottle I keep in the fridge along with ice cubes- he takes the ice out of the dish and piles them up in the hallway licking them- when I was putting the water in the dish about a week ago, he came to me and actually got the bottle in his mouth and was drinking the water from it as I was pouring it- it was hilarious!
He has learned command very quickly , he sits, waits, lies down, gives a paw, fetch & leave a toy, walks 'nicely' when not on the extended lead, he loves a massage and will let me investigate any part of his body without nipping( good for when he needs to see a vet)he has also started to 'hump' his 2 teddies which are bigger than he is -LOL. He is losing his baby teeth, just had 1 day when he hasn't eaten his food.
He is a 'paper thief' has ripped up half my scrabble book, pages from my dictionary, I have to put any papers up my a..e so he won't tear them! He loves breaking all the twigs from the garden into 'bite size' pieces and chew on them in doors, I have to have eyes in the back of my head with him.
Having said all that, my dogs are the reason for my getting out of bed in the mornings, I love them to bits!
    You live..You learn.:)

Hi Renegade, didnt think anyone would be interested in our pups pooing and sleeping arrangements. Ive turned into the puppy bore, everytime I meet someone with a dog I start taking about house training and sleeping. Boris is only 10 weeks old tomorrow and we've only had him 3 weeks, but I cant believe how much hes changed. Appear to be making progress, only wee'd last night and slept till 6:) Left him in kitchen today for 2.5 hours and no wee's or poo's:)

When he meet the other Jack Russell yesterday it went great, Boris was very submissive and happy to play. He wasnt so sure about the Pointer as shes a very big dog compaired to Boris and very jumpy as shes a pup too.

Renegate 9 dogs, I guess you dont mean all at once! Any tips and advice is very welcome. By the way Boris started humping his teddies and my kids legs on the very first night at 7 weeks old, try explaining to a 7 year old what hes doing!

Hi, I have been following the story too. Its nice to know there are others in the same situation as me :) At sometime, between 4-5 in the morning I will think of the others doing the same as me - standing outside in some unflattering pyjamas while watching the puppy go wee wee, hoping the neighbours arent watching. She is 9 weeks old, and we have only had her home with us for a few days, so it is a big learning curve for us all. She stays in her crate overnight in the kitchen, perfectly happy to go in there with her stuffed Kong, but after 10 mins starts crying and barking. We are trying to resist bringing her up the bedroom - so staying strong until she gives up (sometimes 1.5 hrs) and having faith that we will eventually get there...Oh I am so tired! So worried about keeping the neighbours awake at 4.30 in the morning because she wont settle again, but they say they cant even hear her...PHEW!

Does anyone know if puppies wake up at first light- so later in winter? Cos this ties in with when she wakes up and would we benefit from making the kitchen a bit darker and maybe getting a bit more sleep? Might make a good case for the OH to put up the blinds that have been sitting around for months :D I dont really want to cover the crate with a blanket cos its been so hot!

She also has been doing the 'humping' thing. Is this something she will grow out of or should it get a firm 'No'? I have horrible visions of her doing it to visitors legs!!

    Any help greatfully appriciated

Quite grateful that Belles not a humper! Ha ha. She's been such a good girl today though....very much got her appetite back. Only had one accident today and thats because daddy shut her in the living room whilst he did something and thought she was barking for attention. Alas, it was for a wee wee.

Nevermind, she did try. She is getting a bit difficult in terms of trying to get her to bed...seems to have taken a bit of a dislike to her crate at the minute.

I too am surprised how many seem to be following our little monsters progress. However, I'm pleased you are here. Let's stick together and not let the monsters win. Although, I'm starting to let sleep deprivation win which isn't good! Ha ha.

Yes lets stick together, the pups cant win, well not all the time:) FireFly80 I was wondering if them getting up early had something to do with the light as Boris was waking at 4/5ish and its so light at that time, also the birds are so noisy. I do cover Boris's crate with a quilt but our house is very cool and his crate is open, so if he gets to hot he can get out. Now Im to scared not to put it on as hes been sleeping till 6:)

For me the only advice I would give you is do what works for you, I was getting advice from all over the place and was getting worked up that I was doing the 'wrong thing' and Boris would turn into a horror. Ive also found lots of people admiting they dont have what you would call 'perfect dogs' e.g has to sleep in their beds, cant be let of leads, took ages to be house trained. Pups are like babies and you have to work with their personality and your family - do what works for you.

Twinklie, glad to hear Belle's eating again, do you think her not wanting to go in the crate has anything to do with the poo incident or maybe shes too hot. If only they could tell us it would be so much easier. I must admit one morning when Boris woke at 5 and I was just soooo sleep deprived that I shouted at him to shut up and go back to bed:( He went back to bed and has slept from 10 till 6 without complaining at all:) for the last 3 nights. DHs out tonight, he will disturb Boris when he comes in late so dont know how tonight will be, fingers crossed.

PS Boris has stopped humping legs and its only his teddies now:)

Yep definitely need to stick together! Its been a big help knowing we are not the only one going through the trials the puppy has been giving us, and people saying stick in there it gets better helps me see a light at the end of the tunnel. I think things will get a whole lot better when we can take her out for short walks..two weeks and counting.

Thanks for the advice, we are trying different things. I will try covering up the crate with a blanket and see how we get on. You are right about the birds being loud - I have a few times mistaken them chirping for the dog whining in my half sleep. I couldn't believe she slept till 5.30 this morning and only 10 mins crying when she went to bed. My mum swears by playing classical music up quite loud, and it does seem to really make her give up the crying and barking quite a bit quicker. But this morning, when I put her back in her crate she cried and barked the whole hour till she is allowed out of her crate until 630 --- ARGGG! I think tonight i will make up a frozen kong and give it to her when she goes back in --- dont know is this is rewarding her getting up early, but at least I might get some peace and quiet. Whoever invented Kongs needs to be given a medal :j

I really sound like im moaning - but she is a lovely girl, cant believe how quickly she is learning things, there are not many accidents now as she is going to the backdoor now most times she needs the loo and has gotten the idea to get on the business when she is out there.

Great to hear your puppies are growing well. I told OH about the kibble/poo incident - LOL!!

Poor Belle...still I'm glad the mental scaring we are inflicting upon our pup is amusing everyone as much as it (secretly amuses me) appalls me!! :rotfl:

We got up today at 5.15am for a pee and a poo and then went back to bed for another hour. DH said she's been brilliant day because he's been at home with her all day...no accidents etc.

We just took her for a walk (or carry in her case) round the block. She didn't like the "REALLY" busy road but was fine everywhere else. But now she's decided to sleep rather than eat her tea. I imagine it is quite draining though the first time they go for a wonder round even if it is us doing the walking for her.

As for the crate...she goes in much better for me than she does DH...but then I think he turns it into too much of a game. Doh!

Boris up at 5am yesterday and 6am today. Now he will go to bed with no complaining and stay asleep most of the night I now want more:) I want him to sleep at least till 7am. I really do think it has to do with the light, so does that mean he wont sleep later till winter? Renegade youve had 9 dogs whats your experience been? The house training appears to be going well and hes stopped pooing at night but does wee on one pad near the door:) But yesterday he sneaked upstairs and wee'd on my bedroom carpet:( He cant get back down the stairs yet and its so funny watching him trying. Hows it going for everyone else, good I hope or are well all still suffering sleep deprevation.

We got Belle her collar and lead yesterday. So she's been wearing her collar proudly....although it took about 3 hours before she stopped walking like there was something wrong with her. When we first put the lead on she kept trying to eat it. Then she kept trying to walk backwards (was very funny) but by the end of it she was doing laps of the yard with us. So we'll try it again today so that she's all ready for out on Tuesday/Wednesday.

As for sleeping. Well thats all been thrown out of the window because of her body clock being all thrown out. DH has been staying up till 4am so poor Belle doesn't know whether she is coming or going. It resulted in a bit of a row when he said that I pander to her by getting up at 5.30 am when she cries to let her out for a pee and poo. If she was still in her routine that's about as long as she can go before she'll end up wetting her bed....I didn't know he was staying up that late with her!

However, meal times seem also to have gone out of the window. His excuse is that she'll cry and it would wake me up...well if he came to bed at a normal time like I do then she'd maybe cry for 10 minutes if that and then she'd sleep through...like she does 5 days a week!

I'm really cross that he said I pander to her because I don't. Found out he's been forcing her into her bed at night and now she won't go near the playpen if he's there...but she will for me (I drop treats in for her to get and close it behind her). So I think she's getting rather mixed messages now. So I think that just means I'll have to stay in charge of the bedtime routine everynight then...but it's hard if he is still up! ARGH! I'm very frustrated right now.

She is also going through a biting stage right now...but it seems to get worse when DH is at home and rough houses with her. I think the chewing stage is getting ready to start as well! Doh!
