Of course, that was just before games consoles came out, and the first game I remember seeing played on someone's TV set was TV tennis. Green screen, line down the middle, two blocks either side to represent players, another block to represent the ball - everyone was fascinated with it when it first came out. Heaven knows what 12 year olds will want for their birthdays if I ever get to have a 12 year old grandson, time machines and miniature spaceships I suppose....One life - your life - live it!0

Me too, Beanie, much too frightening.
Nargle, cinema and pizza would be great. My 12 year old niece and nephew (twins) did that with some friends and it went down really well.
You've got lots of ideas for presents there. The book would be great, CDs and DVDs you can pick up online from the various sites and you may be able to get a music stand from your OH's favourite shopping site
Good luck, hope you get it all sorted

Hi there
I feel like all the others here. Powerless to help you make this right. I was HORRIFIED by your first post, furious with your second post, and sad for your other posts. If I had seen your family when your OH was regimentingg your daughter like that I would have reported him to social services in a heart beat for pychological abuse. No way is that right.... Ok she seems allright now, but watch out for melt downs when she has children, it all might come out then.
I am sorry but staying with this person, (he isn't a man by the way, he doesn't deserve the name, he is an infantile little nothing, who gets his jollies by making other people feel as small and a nothing ess as him) is not the best course for two main reasons.
1) life is too sodding short. you are only here once. I wouldn't have stayed with him after he forced you to choose between him and your daughter. That was CRUEL of him.
2) Do you REALLY want your son thinking it is ok to treat females this way?
I hope that you can sort this quickly. You DON'T NEED THIS PIECE OF RUBBISH. He needs you to make him feel better about himself. BUT THAT IS HIS PROBLEM TO SORT OUT. Not yours. YOU DESERVE BETTER!

Thanks chev, some sobering thoughts there. I am not going to be rushing into anything at present, but if/when things flare up again the points you and others on here have made will be in my mind. Currently things seem fine but who knows what the future will bring? At least I feel in a stronger position, having been able to come on here and let it all out of my system. Thanks to everyone for being here. One life - your life - live it!0

Well, the boy's getting a book, a computer game and some rock CDs, plus a birthday cake from the local bakery and a possible cinema trip on the day with a mate. Will that do? He will also have stuff from other family members as well so I think he will end up doing pretty ok.One life - your life - live it!0
