Well, I managed to sort out some old gold jewellery and found a place in town that gave me nearly a hundred quid for it - might have got a little more on the internet but this was cash in hand on the spot. It was stuff like rings that no longer fit me, and necklaces I no longer wear, and nothing had any real sentimental value for me. So I treated myself to some lovely hand made soaps (musk and patchouli frangrances) from a stall in town, and they are currently scenting my knicker drawer beautifully! I also have eleven quid in Co-op vouchers which I can use for essential supplies next week, so we shall survive!
OH has said he doesn't fancy going on holiday next month but understands that as it is all paid for, and we won't be going abroad again for some time, he might as well go along and make the most of it. He seems to be in a good mood at present, bought me an enamel bangle from the chemist in the village today, just because it caught his eye and he thought I might like it. Well, he is trying....(very trying at times!)
Just got to decide what to give our son for his birthday next weekend, thinking caps on for some MSE inspiration...One life - your life - live it!0 -
That's fab money you got for the jewellery - even better if it was items that you can't wear like the rings
the soaps sound lovely, i love popping smelly things like soap in my clothes drawers makes everything smell gorgeous!
OH sounds in a better frame of mind what with the holiday and the lovely bangle - hopefully this mood/frame of mind will last
will put thinking cap on for MSE pressie ideas for your son, might be a tricky one! Those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter

What sort of things are your DS interested in?
Does he have hobbies?
Is he 12?

Hi Nargle
Just catching up with you, been busy for the last few days.
Glad things seem to be settling down again, hopefully the current mood will last for a while as he does seem to be trying to make amends.
Great money for your jewellery, you might as well have the money rather than hoarding jewellery you're not going to wear again. The soaps sound lovely - you definitely deserved a treat.
Re DS's birthday, echoing Beanie really, could you give us some ideas of what he's interested in? I've got a 12 year-old nephew, there might be some interests in common..
Take care

Yes my son will be 12 next weekend, and is an Xbox addict, so a game of some sort is possible. He also likes reading and has mentioned in passing the latest Skullduggery Pleasant book which has recently been published (Skullduggery Pleasant is a sort of detective who happens to be dead and in the form of a skeleton, I have read the previous books and they do get you hooked on it after a while...I was just the same with Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket). He likes Lego, watched the series Ashes to Ashes and has the Life on Mars DVDs, so the Ashes to Ashes ones might be a possibility....music wise I could introduce him to the delights of David Bowie and Phil Collins, as he heard one of the latter's tracks on one of his Xbox games. Don't know what else, really, although he did say something about a music stand for when he's practising his euphonium. Any more suggestions would be gratefully received. We did the whole party thing for his 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th birthdays, and it is a lot of money and effort, especially when you don't get many invitations in return. I suppose the other kids' parents found it too expensive, and I can't blame them really. Besides, at 12 years of age jelly and ice cream loses its magic! One life - your life - live it!0

You could maybe take DS & a friend to the pictues & for a wee pizza.
You seem to have the present front covered well.

It would have to be more than a wee pizza, more like a humungous great paving slab of a pizza for DS and his mate! Good idea, Beanie, will bear that in mind...One life - your life - live it!0

I remember, when I was 12 to 16-ish, we had disco parties which were great fun. Does that make me sound ancient? One life - your life - live it!0
