Very wise Dad, Nargle. Make sure you listen to him and put yourself first occasionally.
Glad your Dad got home safely

Calm, relaxed day today, had routine hospital appointment and blood test done, that's it till next year. Now waiting to see if son rings me to say he's coming home on the school bus as usual, if not, then I know he will be staying behind to do a bit of music practice and will require Mum's taxi Service later....OH having consult with OCC Health dept at present to see if he can do this course he was supposed to do last week. House quiet - heaven! Am doing Chicken Caesar salad for dinner using chicken breast salvaged from freezer -finances a bit tight at present so am trying out the art of frugality. Bit difficult when Ringtons tea bloke has a new product in his basket - orange cake with white chocolate bits in, sample of which now sitting in kitchen cupboard! OH is far worse than I am, though, bought a fancy radio for the kitchen, cost him over £80. He is a shopaholic - any gadget catches his eye and he has to have it. Which is fine as long as the bills get paid and we clear our debts, but I seem to be doing most of the budgeting and worrying, and it's me that gets accused of being stingy with money when I say no to a purchase! I need to start thinking about our son's birthday later this month, what do you get a 12 year old when there's not much cash in the kitty? Then of course there is the holiday next month - OH not said much, assume he will come along as planned - when in the midst of his giant paddy recently he was adamant he was not going to go, which is ironic considering it was he who pushed for us to have a foreign holiday this year, and he who chose the destination as one he would like to visit.....I shall continue with current plans i.e. arrange for taxi to take us to airport, arrange for chicken sitter, organise foreign currency for me and son (OH can sort himself out if he's coming) drop puddy off at cattery (and pay the bill on our return).....although OH being perfectly ok at present, I can foresee future areas of conflict on the horizon. The difference is that this time I will go with the flow and he can threaten what he likes - if he walks he walks, and I will knuckle down and deal with things as I have to. Somehow I think he would be the loser - he would find it very difficult without me to organise things and keep things running smoothly. Forgive my ramblings, sometimes I reflect on the current situation and have to sort things out in my head. My current plan is to get us to next payday with as little outlay as possible - all bills for this month spoken for, just no extra cash to play with!One life - your life - live it!0

Had a text from daughter today - they moved house yesterday, now sharing a house with 2 students rather than 4 as in the old house, so hopefully a bit more room for them. I replied saying that as she is now a respectable married woman I hoped she would keep the new room tidier than the old - honestly, you would not believe the chaos in her room on her wedding day, stuff in piles everywhere! Or perhaps you would believe it, maybe it's a student thing?
Am making a minced beef and onion pie for dinner today, very Old Style MSE, hoping to get away without spending anything today. OH out having his annual appraisal this morning, so some peace and quiet for me at present, time to catch up on the forums.One life - your life - live it!0 -

Well, minced beef pie did not turn out as well as expected, pastry tough, meat filling bland - obviously lost my touch there! Still, it was filling. OH took delivery of a fancy radio yesterday, supposed to be a present for someone but he liked it so much it now sits in our kitchen. Ebay. of course! Today a brush attachment for a recently-purchased-from Ebay vacuum cleaner arrived in the post - Ebay again. Don't get me wrong, we have benefitted a lot from bargains picked up on Ebay, and have sold one or two things as well, but all OH does (when he is not playing computer games) is trawl Ebay for bargains and spend money on things we don't really need. I suppose my time on MSE could also be classed as an addiction, but at least it doesn't cost me anything! I have found some bits of gold jewellery at the bottom of my jewellery box, stuff I don't wear any more, and which hold no sentimental value for me, so I might take them into town later this week and see if I can get some cash for them. Might be only a few quid but every little helps!One life - your life - live it!0

Nargle the one that martin mentions, Hatton Garden Metal, did me a good deal and even replaced the cheque (about £300) after the doggles ate it, I kid you not!!!
Might be worth a try and you'll get a fair amount.

Hey Nargle, sorry I missed your post yesterday...is it wrong that sometimes I feel I want to bash your OH's head off the wall when I read about him? Not in a nasty way I hope you understand (wall will be covered in soft pillows), just so he gets a bit of sense into him! I feel frustrated for you most of the time - you try so hard and see no return...I just want to come down and fix everything so it's perfect for you.
I really admire the way you can remain so calm, I'd blow a fuse if my OH went and bought a radio for £80 when we had little left in the spends kitty. It reminds me of the Governments 'Keep Calm and Carry On' posters meant for WW2 (if i had a diary then i reckon it would be called this as i must repeat it in my head at least 3 times a day!) If he does walk then it will be his loss, you are the stronger person out of the two of you and you will manage even if it means a little help from us lot (we can provide chatter, cake, cuppas and shoulders to lean on
)
Your minced beef and onion pie sounds yummy, we're having chicken and veg from the freezer (and it looks suspiciously like its been in there about 6 months too long as its all 'freezer-burnt' as my mum would say!) with rice in case the veggies are past it!

Cheers for the tip about the gold merchants, Dopey, might give them a look in.
Allie - OH buys stuff off Ebay using his own Paypal account, but if it's for something domestic, or a present for a family member then he expects me to go halves. Which is fair enough if the item is needed, but when he has bought it on a whim, or worse still when he has consulted me about it, I have said no, we don't need one of them (we have 3 in the cupboard already) and he still goes and buys it ......grrrrr! As I said earlier on another thread, if only I could wire up the computer so that when he hits the Buy Now button on Ebay 10,000 volts shoot up his........One life - your life - live it!0
