Indeed, I'd just ditch the 512MB then, and stick to 2x1GB.

    A typo, I meant 1GB sticks of course. :)

You're probably running a 32 bit OS, so 4.5GB of ram would be pointless, not to mention the fact that the crucial checker says the max your board will support is 4GB. Not that it's 100% reliable, but still.

Don't mind Donnie, after the fuss he caused earlier in the thread, which made him look a bit of a fool, all he has left is the ability to snipe at obvious mistakes. :)

I thought you were ignoring my posts. :)

As to the 'fuss'. It seems that you have agreed with me all the way. That we needed to check what was inside, before speculation. That CPU-Z should be utilised. That your suggestion of
    The more the merrier
    and
    A couple of 2GB sticks
    or
A couple of 2GB sticks as well as...
is what really falls under the heading of foolish.

You couldn't even admit that your supposition that only £5 separated 512MB and 1GB of DDR2 memory was correct in only one instance and incorrect in all of the others.
You might have got away with that one if you admitted that you supposed that PC5300 was suitable in this case. But I asked you and you backed away from it. So you can't even use that defence.

Only the fortune of it actually being PC5300 saved you from being the complete non entity.

All this from me asking you to create a useful link for the OP rather than wordy ramblings.

Nevertheless, it appears that links have been produced and the correct advice has been given, eventually.

Before you go calling anyone else a fool, take a look in a dictionary for the meaning of a 'typographical error'. :)

You are one slippery character. :rotfl:

If it is the HDD, called ' death tick' :

    - get important info off immediately if not sooner
    - then open the case and find out what brand / model HDD it is, and let the group know
    - and someone will tell you which proprietary [ brand specific ] DFT to use to check your drive
