Just post links and stop rambling.

We are talking about a Windows XP machine with 512 MB RAM. With your knowldge you should be able to make a educated guess at the RAM needed. I don't see too many sticks of that priced at £15 per GB, so I too would have appreciated a link.

So, can you link us to your general price of £15 for a 1GB RAM module?

I could make an educated guess, but I'd rather not guess when the OP had already been instructed to check using crucial's tool precisely what memory they needed. I've no idea on the motherboard, so I don't know how many slots it has, or if there are any issues of compatibility.

If you absolutely must have a link to a £15 1GB stick of DDR2, here you go.

I'm not sure why you were unable to find that for yourself, but I guess some people need it handed to them on a plate.

Buying second hand from CEX is of course an option, but I've yet to encounter an online shop that has worse customer service, so unless you can walk into a branch I'd avoid them. YMMV.

If that's your best guess as to what is inside.....:)

Am I going to have to ignore your posts? Are you the new Conor? :rotfl:

The box has DDR2, that's all we know. That's why I didn't venture a guess. You asked for a 15 quid stick of DDR2. I showed you a 15 quid stick of DDR2. Are you simple?

This is a quote from your earlier post:
I could make an educated guess, but I'd rather not guess when....

Since you gave a specific price point, you clearly were assuming that it was PC2-5300, because if it were PC2- 4200 or even PC2-3200, there would be a different price point. Wouldn't it?

So if you do know something of the subject, don't mislead others without at least the caveat of a from.

Otherwise you could have someone searching far and wide for a £5 discrepancy that simply does not exist. I hope that I have explained that simply enough for you.

I said Ish, I didn't give a specific price. Are you really going to argue about what margin of error suffixing a value with ish affords a person?

I wasn't assuming anything about the speed, but the price doesn't vary that much between the various flavours of DDR2 so 1GB would be £15, give or take a few pounds.

Besides, the chances are the PC2-5300 would be backwards compatible with a slower machine running 3200 or 4200 if you really want to split hairs.

I am quite impressed that you have ESP though, to be able to ridicule the (unmade) suggestion that it might be PC2-5300.

Now, I really mean that I'll ignore your posts from now on, you're behaving like a troll.

Motherboard permitting, it may be compatible.
What you actually wrote was that there was a £5 price difference between the modules. Anyway I'm glad you were impressed and as you wrote, will ignore this post. So farewell my friend. :)

But if you are still around I'm sure the OP would like links to other other memory as well, showing that general £5 difference.

If there are none I guess we have to assume that you were referring to PC2-5300 only. ;)
  • weegie.geek, which # number says the box has DDR2 ?

please god no - don't say Conor's back nooooooooooooo

I can see no evidence that it's 184 or 240pin

Ta ddoris, it's true then I am a blind old coffin-knocker, I missed that completely. :D

Still think without MOBO detail everything is a guess at best and repeated ask for MOBO are still not revealed by nunnygirl. So I'll leave now this thread to you nice people.

Done it for you, there are 1 or 2 . I would spring for a slightly better one if the budget was available though they are kinda legacy.
