As for killing the MOBO with static through not being grounded properly, you would have to try quite hard to do this.

I've never managed to do it!

You can find out with a free prog. such as pcwizard or SIW exactly what memory you have and then I'd recommend you get another 512 stick as 512mb is a bit low by todays standards. I dont think you will notice any difference with more mem. and if it's ddr it could be costly.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Or click on START, right click on My Computer and select properties.

On the "General" tab, near the bottom is information about your computer.

Naaa - much more fun to yank it out and look then smear the contacts with your greasy mitts, fail to reseat it properly, then spend half the day trying to fix it.

512MB of DDR RAM will cost less than £15. They will almost certainly notice a difference.

I read it that ddoris was recommending an upgrade by 512MB to 1024MB and saying going further than that on XP probably wouldn't bring much extra benefit. I'd agree with that - especially now that memory prices are rising although in the past when it was dirt cheap I've bumped a couple of xp netbooks from 1GB to 2GB.

What are you talking? It would certainly would make a difference under normal usage and is most definitely worth the £15 if they can afford it.

Kwikbreaks has read me as I intended .
Donnie , what are you talking about? -"It would certainly would make a difference.... and is most definitely worth the £15"?? -I recommended an extra 512MB but said I didn't think there was benefit in more ram (than 512), which I would buy used.
Maybe I should type more slowly!

Yes - slow down - you are obviously typing far too fast for Donnie to read your stuff correctly. So was I it seems so I've slowed down a bit....

(I need one of those "you don't have to be mad to post here but it helps" stickers I think)
