richie-from-the-boro, I've been trying to get MOBO info, but due to problems with the internet as home (thanks 3 mobile broadband) I haven't been able to check the crucial site.

I don't use the PC in day to day living, I have my own laptop. PC is OH's

I know it's 240 pin RAM though, think it's DDR PC2-5300 but not 100% sure......this is just what I can remember from the RAM stick when OH had it out. I was sure I was told it was DDR2 though *confused*

DDR PC2 and DDR2 are one and the same thing.

Install and Run CPU-Z. It will report details of the Motherboard and tell you which memory is installed under 'Memory' and 'SPD'.

If you have a USB drive you could download CPU-Z somewhere else, bring it home and pop it into your OH's PC and let us know what you're working with.

If you could do us screenshots like these it'd help a lot.

edit: we were typing at the same time. :) Looks like this would do the trick after all. ;)

Thanks weegie.geek, will get on it as soon as OH gets paid on Friday

Is there any chance we can take it to more than that? Maybe 2gb??

Absolutely, yeah. The more the merrier, up to a point. A couple of 2GB sticks as well as or instead of the 512MB stick would be great.

    A typo, I meant 1GB sticks of course. :)

You're probably running a 32 bit OS, so 4.5GB of ram would be pointless, not to mention the fact that the crucial checker says the max your board will support is 4GB. Not that it's 100% reliable, but still.

Don't mind Donnie, after the fuss he caused earlier in the thread, which made him look a bit of a fool, all he has left is the ability to snipe at obvious mistakes. :)
