The pears and plum trees were bought a couple of years ago for £4.99 each (end of season sale). We also grow blackberries along the fence, have raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and gooseberries. I have two blueberries in pots. We also have raised veg beds and grow potatoes in pots.
Wow, love the sound of all that lovely home-grown fruit. I am going to plant some fruit bushes in the spring, I have a very small area which is just right for them. I've been tempted a few times to grow blueberries in pots - do you get a good crop from them? Have also meant to try rhubarb.
I have a victoria plum tree which is heavy with fruit, not all of it ripe yet though. Also a small cooking-apple tree which has lots of fruit on it as well. Mind you, I think I still have frozen stewed-apple from last year buried in the freezer. We were given lots of windfalls as well last year so hope that happens again. The kids love some sweetened stewed apple on pancakes.:)
I absolutely love growing fruit/veg in the garden - I find it so relaxing and also exciting to see everything grow and mature.0 -
Still shattered today.
Got a letter yesterday from the bank, saying a DD had been returned due to lack of funds. It turns out an annual dd came out that I forgot about, and so there wasn't enough there at that time .
Checked the account and they'd obviously tried again as it went out yesterday, so that's not a problem, but it now means I'm going to have a £10 bank charge that I really don't need right now.
Made a PAD again today, and have withdrawn another £10 from ebay and amazon so that's towards my target this month.
How annoying about the annual DD but it's so easy to overlook them.
Well done on another PAD, you are doing so well, Jwil. As you are still tired, you need to try to treat yourself to a nice quiet evening or two, with no ebaying/amazoning etc. Maybe a nice long bath and an early night.0 -

sometimes i see a job during my lunch (these are ones where its filling in an application rather than cv) i make a note of it get home and its been taken off due to the number of applicants - i don't get in until gone 10pm most nights - even if it was sending a cv i can't use the computer at work for personal use
I see, difficult. I am lucky because I either work from home or I work at local businesses. I was listening to some guy on the radio today explaining that his daily commute by train is 2.5 hours each way. To me, that is unthinkable. My daily commute is usually a trot back upstairs to my laptop. I do have sympathy for you. There must be some solution though, we'll have to have a think between us and see what we can come up with.DedicatedDFW wrote: »Erm chrimble well... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Before that i have a huge amount of birthdays :eek::eek: including Mr D's and no idea what to get him or where the money will come from to pay for it :eek::eek:
Luckily, all expensive birthdays are now over for another year for me. I really ought to start saving now for next year though, family birthdays can be so expensive. Hope you come up with a nice not-too-costly solution for all the birthdays!0 -
Hi all!
First of all apologies for my grumpinesswhich eventually culminated in tears
- how embarassing
But has also made me more resolved to look after myself better. This will be by regular exercise, regular meals and plenty of fresh fruit and veg whilst limiting the amount of rubbish i eat. i don't think any of these things have caused the tiredness but it can't help and will only do me good. had some pasta for tea but am not sure if this is a healthy meal or not?
Although i frittered 80p today on some comfort foodDidn't feel too guilty though as i felt i needed it
((jwil)) so sorry you have been tired too and well done on your PAD but grr! to the bank charge! i don't know who you bank with but i'd suggest giving them a ring, explain it doesn't normally happen and only happened as it was an annual DD where you received no letter as a reminder and ask for the refund of the chargeIf they say no, then ok, you've spent a few minutes on the phone / in branch with them.
Loving all the garden talkthough my garden is small i've got some fruit and veg in and is a lovely feeling watching everything grow :T and even better eating it
retiredandskint and peaceandfreedom both your garden sound fab :j:j:j
blueberries - i think you need 2 to get a good crop? not sure and it has its own compost too if i remember rightly ??
peaceandfreedom - gifts - i stock up on these throughout the year starting in the sales at the end of the year *neatly tiptoes around the c-word* :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Throughout the year i buy stuff in the sales / bargain prices and it all goes in the gift stashThis year i have made the mistake on doubling up gifts for someone so its a good idea to have a list in your purse of who you need to get for  The only person i don't buy in advance for is Mr D - so alot of gifts are sorted out - usually just a few things i end up needing to pick up
Its more the parties /meals out that are really costly
peaceandfreedom - what a fab commute you have- the job thing is that i guess there is so much competition these days some of the jobs get applicants so fast

That would be lovely. Going to have to do it I think. Obviously not tonight though :rotfl:"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

Hope you are feeling better now DDFW, sometimes it's better just to have a good cry and get it all out.
Pasta's not a bad meal, it's generally what you have with it that's the problem. If it was tomatoey type pasta, then all good, if it had lots of cream and cheese in it, then yummy, but maybe fairly calorific

Errr... probably not now, see below "Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Well, in my tiredness and general confusion this week, I have now managed to bounce the sodding mortgage dd :mad::mad:
After the palaver the other day with the other bounced DD, I went into the account to check all was ok, and that there was enough for the mortgage - I thought there was, but it was actually about £18 short.
I can't believe I didn't twig, and it's not that something else has come out, because the balance is the same as it was then - I just simply got the wrong amount for some unknown reason.
Well annoyed about that, and the money is there now, so will just have to see what happens. I'll probably try and give them a ring tomorrow.
So now that will be two charges, and that's assuming the mortgage company don't charge me as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

Oh dear, how deeply annoying, Jwil. Hopefully, you won't get charged again and the mortgage company won't charge either.
Maybe what you need to do (and I know it's easier said than done) is to keep a buffer amount in the account, to allow for an error in your calculations or unexpected annual DDs. Then you have to pretend to yourself that that money isn't there, if you see what I mean, so that you don't spend it.
Things will get better, remember that.0 -

As it's refined white flour I don't think pasta is too healthy but it's not too bad either. As Jwil said, it depends what you had with it. And don't be embarrassed about having a cry - we all need a good cry sometimes and it helps to let it all out.DedicatedDFW wrote: »blueberries - i think you need 2 to get a good crop? not sure and it has its own compost too if i remember rightly ??
I think you need two to cross-pollinate each other. And I think you need ericaceous compost, which is why many people grow them in containers rather than in the soil. I so love blueberries, it would be lovely to grow our own.DedicatedDFW wrote: »peaceandfreedom - gifts - i stock up on these throughout the year starting in the sales at the end of the year *neatly tiptoes around the c-word* :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Throughout the year i buy stuff in the sales / bargain prices and it all goes in the gift stashThis year i have made the mistake on doubling up gifts for someone so its a good idea to have a list in your purse of who you need to get for  The only person i don't buy in advance for is Mr D - so alot of gifts are sorted out - usually just a few things i end up needing to pick up

DDFW, you are way more organised than me when it comes to presents, although I have few things stashed away. And you're right about the meals out, it can be a huge expense. Hope you get of lightly then.0
