    unlucky there.
I had similar experience last year. My boyfriend bough a Apple Mac on ebay for me & paid via bank transfer. No sign of the computer & no response from the seller for 3 weeks. You could still see the whole username of the seller/ buyer on the feedback then, I contacted a few of his buyers, one of them picked up furniture from his house & gave me his address (though it was too far away) & told me this seller was moving to Singapore (hence selling all the big stuff). Also contact a mobile number he listed on his car listing, though the man who answered said the seller gave me his car because he owed him money, so no hope there.... police couldn't do much either as the person weren't in uk. Then I googled his name & town & wha..la... his CV was in Linkden!! He just took up a job in Singapore (sounds like a very good one!!) so then I googled the company he worked for & my boyfriend rang there. he must have a shock of his life when he answered & asked how my boyfriend got his work number in Singapore!!!!! Well, bf told him he had contacted the police & will take actions against him, I think the seller was shocked by how far we tracked him down and knew where he worked. He apologized and he refunded the money by bank transfer the next day. That was lucky for us.

I hope you'll get your money back!

    terrifying... no privacy any more.

OP really needs to confirm from the information given who the eBay seller is, and if they have listed the item. If the eBay seller is not the person listing the item, then its pretty much full stop.

Hopefully the OP will have a name for the bank account that the cash was paid into. Having the account number & sort-code is good, but without a name its pretty much at a dead stop totally.

The OP might have to confirm that the eBay seller isnt the person with the listing, then pass all the information to the local police. I would of reported the crime last week, or even an interest and a detective would of been assigned.

From now on, you really need to start printing the emails off, and all the details that you have found out and provide them to the police to start tracing the person with the bank account.

Its all one big circle of fraud..and the eBay seller & person with the bank account are linked..

if you look up the names on the feedback and start looking at who they have bought / sold to there appears to be a circle of about 36 names buying and selling to each other. If you look closer quite a few appear to be in china. Also a few penny feedbacks start emerging if you delve deep enough. I've only looked at a few on one end but it looks like it is a much bigger group than it initially looks.

    Steve,

I cant really help you anymore, as it appears that you've come to a dead end without driving from Devon to Maidstone to go knock on the door.

The next step is the police, but as the posted above has said, the sellers feedback is all linked between each other, and in previous posts i have found eBay sales in many countries which makes me believe that this isnt an small scam.

If you could of found the seller once you realised things have gone wrong, then you could of eliminated them & left the police to work on the bank account side of things.

Unfortunately now your on your own, and i do hope that you will come back and update us. Im sure many people are reading this, just not posting up onto it.

    Good luck,

    Regards,

    Alias

Excellent result. Should still have landed him in though, deserves nothing less.

I wondered if I was alone, but we'll probably have to put up with them until mummy takes their PC away.

I find this whole scenario incredible and have to admit at first I did think it was all fiction, but as the thread has progressed it seems to be true, op why oh why have you put yourself in this position? Crikey there is being nice and there is being plain old silly, sorry dont want to make matters worst but you really have been foolish with this from start to finish, the only thing you can really do is keep in touch with the police and let them investigate this fully, £1920 is hardly loose change to anyone so I would rest assured that the police will investigate this as to wether or not they find the culprate well that depends on what level of fraudster he/she is, lets hope for your sake it is someone of a more basic level than a high end racket.

I hate to say it and I really do but I would not hold your breath on seeing any of this money back, even if the police do cath them if they are some low life scum bag the money will be well gone as all you can really hope for is a criminal conviction with the chance of a court awarding you some kind of compensation but again if the culprit has nothing then you could be waiting an awful long time to see anything back.

I really do feel sorry for you, you have tried to do a friend a good turn and it has all gone well and truly pear shaped, it has been mentioned in the thread earlier and I tend to think it is possible, do you think this "friend" could have anything to do with this? Did they by chance tell you which one they wanted etc?

There really isn't an awful lot more you can do just hope the police catch this lowlife, so far as getting the money back quickly forget it, you need to be looking at some other way quickly to pay your rent and bills..............
