so do you think that again could mean that it is a scam at all please.

As everyone keeps telling you its a Scam there is no way this was genuine I'm confused why you still think that its possible it wasn;t. The chances of you getting your money back are well incredibly unlikely.

The ebay account was either Hijacked or set up for this purpose either way finding the person will not be easy. The police as much as they will have a look into it normally only have resources to pursue big rings of fraud and even in those cases its unlikely for anyone toget their money back

    Steve,

Some PM's on the way back to you with an area to start. Some numbers in the area of the eBay account to start to ring and try to find that person. You might might get lucky on the first, or might not even be any of the 20.

As i said in the PM, the persons eBay account might have been hi-jacked and its the first they hear of it. The real key here is that name of the bank account that you have mentioned in earlier posts.

If the bank account name matches the eBay persons name then you might be onto a winner, but i guess this wont be the case, and the cash would of been collected by a 3rd person, and sent on via western union. You see these adverts of 'make cash easily' on traffic lights, this might be fishing these people in.

If you do contact the person who ebay account it is, and its not them who is listing the items (like they are going to admit it), and the person who you have paid the cash into the account name is different, then you might be stuck here.

If you did track this bank account person down, how would you recover the cash?

( I had something similar a few years ago where my bank account was hacked, and alot of cash online transferred out, the police knew the person whose bank account it went into, but could not track it any further than the borders).

    Good luck,

    Alias

    Steve,

Have you pulled the sellers contact details, and telephoned the number on file.

Also, the postcode you gave me is wrong. The eBay seller lives next door to a guest house. Will PM you the website incase you want to give them a ring and ask them for details on next door.

Can you bring it round tomorrow . Thanks:D
  • Looks to me this is linked in with other fraudsters judging from the feedback of the buyers.

Also, i cehecked his bacnk but with the sort code that i have for him, i could only find that it was a barclays ban account in Airdrie in Scotland and not a bank in Kent where he actually lives so do you think that again could mean that it is a scam at all please

If someone checked out my bank sort code, it would be for in the Durham area but I live in Cumbria. I've just kept the same account details when ever I've moved house.

I agree i wouldn't read too much into a sort code. My online one I use for ebay shows a Manchester address, I live in LOndon, but that bank has all manchester sort codes. Many other banks are the same.

Not one of my accounts relate to an area within 25 miles of where i live.

If this is part of a large-scale scam/fraud, then the police will be involved, so keep as much evidence as you can.
A few years ago I purchased 2 DVDs from a seller with 900+ feedback. I didn't receive the goods and shortly after, the seller became 'no longer registered with Ebay'.
I wrote off the money and put it down to experience. Some months later I was contacted by the police and asked to provide details.
It took about two years, but I eventually received my money back plus a letter of explanation/apology from the seller. It was part of some kind of social justice/compensation thing where the fraudster had to compensate everyone he had defrauded using his 3 different Ebay accounts.
I am a lot more careful now about using the internet for any transactions, but then it is always easy to be wise with hindsight...

    unlucky there.
I had similar experience last year. My boyfriend bough a Apple Mac on ebay for me & paid via bank transfer. No sign of the computer & no response from the seller for 3 weeks. You could still see the whole username of the seller/ buyer on the feedback then, I contacted a few of his buyers, one of them picked up furniture from his house & gave me his address (though it was too far away) & told me this seller was moving to Singapore (hence selling all the big stuff). Also contact a mobile number he listed on his car listing, though the man who answered said the seller gave me his car because he owed him money, so no hope there.... police couldn't do much either as the person weren't in uk. Then I googled his name & town & wha..la... his CV was in Linkden!! He just took up a job in Singapore (sounds like a very good one!!) so then I googled the company he worked for & my boyfriend rang there. he must have a shock of his life when he answered & asked how my boyfriend got his work number in Singapore!!!!! Well, bf told him he had contacted the police & will take actions against him, I think the seller was shocked by how far we tracked him down and knew where he worked. He apologized and he refunded the money by bank transfer the next day. That was lucky for us.

I hope you'll get your money back!
