Even if police do go to the bother of persuing these scum bags they rarely get any money back for the buyers. They also tend to go after the big scammers, the gold club scammer was fairly local to me and he got away with hundreds of thousands of pounds and if i recall correctly it was a couple of years before he finally got hauled to court.

Unfortunately these common scams are so easy to spot that I think the authorities soemtimes lose interest. Stock photo, no paypal , they might as well have put 'this is a scam' across the auction (but I bet someone still would have bid)

OP you really need to be putting in a lot of leg work here, you say you have a postal address but did not respond to my question about where that address came from. You need to be sorting this out now, with some urgency if you stand any chance of getting these crooks before they disappear.

    OP,

there are a few things you can be doing now,

    1) You have the persons sort-code & account number, and even a name for the account. Does this name match the name on eBay? If you run the sortcode through google, what branch does it come up with. Is it a branch in kent.?

    2) Have you googled this persons name?

    3) Have you put this persons name into facebook, with the hometown they list to see if you can find someone with that surname in the area, and track them.

    4) Have you put them into 192.com or even BT.com to look for a contact number, even if its just the surname in the area. You might be able to contact a brother, sister, parent etc.

    5) I would remove there eBay username from your post earlier, as soon there eBay name will be found at the top of google searches. If you know the address, then i can ask on a few other forums that i use to ask if any members are from that area, and know XYZ person.

    Regards,

    Alias

    Also, seller takes a cheque.

On eBay, go through to make a payment via cheque, this will give you his address to send post too. This should give you the full address. Then you can also pull contact details from eBay which will give you a telephone number.

Then you can put the postcode into google maps / multimap, and have a look at the property to see if it actually exists etc.

There is so much you can be doing right now to track the eBay account user down, this person might be in on it, or have had there eBay account took over.

You can only confim this by if the eBay sellers name & the person who you deposited the cash to names are the same.

    Were all here to help.

    Regards,

    Alias

How can someone sell £17753.10 in 60 days on a private account, or am I missing something where it says a business seller?
They've been a member since 03, but have only 2 feedback for selling in last 30 days. Yet on goofbay they've sold 7 items in 30 days, 9 in 60 but have just 4 feedback.
Could it be a hijacked account? How long do scammers risk using the same account for?
OP as others say, you need to try everything you can now, I don't know if trading standards will be interested? I'm sure someone will be along soon.
The name you have for the bank transfer, have you put that in to google? 192.com or anywhere else?
Have you phoned ebay? Surely they should be able to help as they will have been paid for the listing & selling.
OP if you want to PM me the details you have, name address, bank account number, I'll see if I can trace anything for you as well. I love a challenge.
