I've been merged. :( I can feel my identity ebbing away....:rotfl:

I did search, Mr squeaky sir, honest guv, but 'tea' and 'loaf' are not exactly unique. :p

Thanks for all the help! :D

Next time try it in quotes as in "tea loaf" and with a bit of luck the search engine will find exact quotes for you instead of threads that are essentially AND/OR.

Especially if you uae the Advanced option.

    This might help too...

    The search button hates me...

I've been pointed in the direction of this recipe, which is the one I've decided to have a bash at. Largely because it's got Yorkshire Tea plastered all over the place, and I'm trying to recreate the original. ;)

Unsurprisingly, I have a few questions before I start.

    1. What's the difference between raisins, sultanas and currants? They're all dried grapes, right?
I was in ASDA, and couldn't remember what I needed, so I guessed and bought sultanas. Typically, the recipe requires currants and raisins. However, I also bought some mixed dried fruit, which had the lot, plus peel. I remembered the glacé cherries. :j

I thought I'd use 300g of the mixed fruit instead of the raisins & currants. That'll work, right?

The mixed spice I've got contains cinnamon, coriander seed, caraway, nutmeg and cloves. Is that the right stuff? I have to check because I have been known to buy the wrong thing before. :o

    Am I on track? :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    I don't reckon I'll go far wrong then. ;)

Is the mixed spice ok?

  • Mr badexample, the mixed fruit will be just fine. I often use it in place of raisins and sultanas because the Sainsbury's Basics stuff is cheap and I like the addition of a little bit of peel.
Your mixed spice sounds right too. I'd just say be careful not to be too heavy handed the first time you use it in case its too intense for your taste.
Enjoy your baking - and its results!

    Excellent, thank you.

The fruit is soaking in the tea as we speak. Why do I pick cakes that I can't eat for ages?

Your test, to see if you have learned the lessons on searching, is to find the post relating to making dumplings in the microwave.

    :)

Made and cooked in three minutes flat!

    :)
