please please help me

Hi, Im 21 and have just split with my boyfriend. We were together for 3 years and lived together for about two. I left him because he cheated on me.
The problem is that when we were togehter we got a joint loan for £4000 this was so he could buy a car and the only reason my name was on it was because he couldn't get a loan without me (bad credit I think) anyway now he is saying that he will make me pay half this back to repay all the money he ever put into our relationship becasue I have left him broken hearted bla bla.

The thing is that I put most of my student loan towards "us" and so he could have not spent much if any more than i have.

Sorry to go on but this is really getting me down. I simply can't afford to repay £2000. can anyone think of anything I can do? I have txt messages from him saying he knows its not my loan but I am liable and he will make me pay amongst other threats. Do you think If I show this to the bank It would help?

We also have a joint accoutn which is currently overdrawn (all his debt) Im in such a mess!

I'd get your name off the current account first. As for the debt I'm not that knowledgeable but would have thought you will be held jointly liable for all of the debt not just individually liable for 50 per cent. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will come along to correct that though.

Who's got the car? Him? Tell him to sell the car to repay the loan if he has.
Being a joint loan probably means that you are liable if it's not paid back.
    Happy chappy

we used to rent a house but when he cheated I moved back in with my parents and him with his. I tried to make it work for a further 3 months but I just can't trust him and think I should deserve better. He is now saying he was going to ask me to marry him and that If I find anyone lese he will put them in hospital. Im so worried It was a good relationship untill he cheated and I never expected anything like this when I left. I just need my name off the loan and joint account so I can try get on with my life. He texts me loads everyday one minute saying hes sorry and loves me and begging me to get back and nect minute threatning me and saying I owe him loads of money. I try to ignore it but its just waring me down.

Have you been to the CAB? it's a really crappy situation and I really feel for you. I am not a legal eagle(but others on here are) I would keep as many of the texts as you can, and maybe take this to the small claims court? I could, and prob am talking aload of *******s but I think you need to talk to somebody who has an understanding of where you are legally. It is so unfair. I don't think they will let you take your name off the bank account till it is in the black.

Thinking of you, let us know what happens xxxxx

Change your mobile number so that he will not hassle you anymore - get your name off the joint bank account asap. Why does he think that the car is his - it will only be registered in his name, and actually belongs to laon company until it's paid for.

does it depend if it is a car loan from the bank or finance???

  • You can clearly prove that the car is half yours. The registration document is worthless and does not prove ownership. Can you get hold of a key by fair means or foul? Or pehaps borrow a wheel clamp to disable the car? Do not give in to his blackmail. You may need to use the small claims court.

Talk to the bank. They may not help but you never know. I don't think you'll be able to simply remove your name and again, the courts may be the only route providing you can prove the debt is his.

Worst case, you have learnt that your bf is not the man you thought he was. Well worth losing a few grand! Whatever you end up losing, hold your head up high. Revenge is a sweet best served cold. Bide your time.

I am thinking of changing my mobile number but like Ive said Im scared he might do something. The loan was got from the bank so he could buy the car. The car is in his name only. He now says he will work out how mush more money he put into our relationship and then I pay him back the extra he put in (hope that makes sense) and he will not make me pay the loan. The only problem is he has me caught untill this loan is payed off If I ever upset him or anything he says all he has to do is stop the direct debit from his account to the loan and get the bank to send half the bill of whats left to me.

I have kept the messages some are quite nasty. All I wanted was out so I could move on has he not punished me enough by cheating? I don't understand what I didi wrong. I now think I should have stayed with him sorted it out then left but I just wanted out
