I don't think it really matters how much it is, that's what it costs to replace so that's what it costs. I've done the research myself, i know he's not pulling one over on me.
Actually it does matter because if it is a Mac you may get lucky and get it fixed for free. I took my last Mac to the shop when it was about 3 years old and out of warranty as one of my cats dropped a drink all over the keyboard and the screen went black. The APple guys kept it for 2 weeks, but when they gave it back to me they had fixed it, installed a new keyboard and trackpad (just because it looked a bit worn) and gave it back to me with a smile and a zero bill.

Don't you just hate cats who can't hold their drink

Sigh, he should have known that! One of the reasons that Macs are more expensive is because the customer service is second to none.

You may also wish to investigate if he has got the extended warranty, I took out the 3 year one for my Pro, especially now I know my cat cannot hold his drink! :D

You may ALSO wish to discuss with him the need for a top of the range Pro, unless he does video editing a cheaper one will probably fulfil his needs! But you know what blokes are like! ;p

I haven't been right through this but just wanted to say my house insurance went up (slightly) because of a claim. I got different quotes - cheaper - and went back to my insurers who actually lowered my premium so it was less than the year before!

    Haggle, haggle, haggle.

  • The only person I knew of who went nuts when his computer was damaged went ballistic because he had stuff on the drive that he didn't want the repair guys to find out about.

He did time for the things on there.

From my time working for an Apple Repair Specialist, most mac repairs involve taking it apart, spraying it with cleaner and putting it all back together again. He's probably covered under insurance. The household does not influence the motor side. It's not his job to say whether it's covered or not anyway.

And it was his stupid idea to leave a drink next to it. I don't do it with my mac, my girls don't ever do it with their computers. It just doesn't occur to them to do anything other than move away from the things when they have food or drink in their possession.

No sympathy for him at all.

£104 was the cost of my recent drink spillage on my Macbook so worth looking into repair before replacement for sure - cant say I shed a tear although I must confess to crying buckets when my mobile phone reverted to factory settings and I lost a lot of very precious texts :( I guess it depends whats important to you as to how you react

He's agreed to look into getting it repaired, but thinks the cost of parts will be quite high. we'll see.....

    I've been Money Tipped!
If you were my daughter, I'd be quite worried by this over the top reaction to accidental damage to a mere thing.

What's he going to be like if ever you became accidentally pregnant - "it's your own fault, and I don't want kids yet so get rid of it. It's your problem not mine so don't come running to me with tears ..."

Seriously, cold shouldering someone over an incident that is at least as much their mistake and shortsightedness as yours would have me asking questions about the maturity of the "other half".
