Just stick another hard drive in the machine and keep the original at home, if the laptop is BER then when he gets the new one he cn transfer all the data and applications across once the base ops sys is installed.0

You lot are ever so funny
Sorry for the lack of update, I've been in the middle of nowhere for a few days enjoying the sun. Anyway I'm back now and everything is fine at home. OH has a plan to replace the laptop, but just needs to download the stuff off the hard drive first which he's confident he can do. once he's done that it'll be replaced on insurance. (which was paid for in full when we took out the policy seven weeks ago so no lapses there)
The reason he's reluctant to take it into a repair shop is because he runs his own business as well as being employed and has part way developed software projects on the laptop. he was worried about losing them or somone pinching his ideas i think. this is also why he needs to download the contents, he's got unfinished work on there.
Anyway he's still a bit gutted about it being broken, it was his pride and joy if I'm honest. but he's not being funny with me at all, and I might even be getting a new laptop out of it myself! As he's picking up a cheap one off ebay to use to download the hard drive off the old one, apparently once he's done with it i can have it. I think he feels a bit bad about being grumpy with me and this is his way of making it up.So all's good, no child !!!!!!, no slapping, no ott drama about unplanned pregnancies, no breakups, i'm kind of sorry I can't be more exciting for you! :rotfl:
As a sort of "sorry" why not buy him an external hard drive so if this ever happens again he wont lose his "lifes work"!!! :rotfl:
It could have been worse you could have scraped his car along a wall!!! :eek:0 -

Why the HELL didn't he have it backed up, if it was SOOOO important !!!
I despair, I really do.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0 -
Nice one, I do hope all the morons who tried to convince you he was up to something did not cause any rift between you, you have to remember forums are awash with people who have phd's in barrack room law and building of straw men
In fairness to the majority of posters (or as you refer to them: "morons"), if the OP had provided all the information that she did in her update regarding WHY the information was so important to her OH (and I find it hard to believe that she wouldn't know that) in her first post, it would have made the situation clearer.
If more posters stated the full circumstances in their first post, maybe there wouldn't be so much speculation.
Just a thought
And as Easy says:Why the HELL didn't he have it backed up, if it was SOOOO important !!!0 -
OP, glad all is being sorted and that your OH has calmed down.
As for the slap comment: we all have different sense of humours and there's nothing wrong with that. Variety is the spice of life and all that.
Had there been any hint of the comment being serious, I wouldn't have found it funny either, but I didn't get that vibe at all. However, it is also worth noting that there is probably a fair number of people on this forum who have been affected by violence/abuse either directly or indirectly. Therefore, they may always find such comments offensive. I'm not saying that everyone who found it offensive has been affected by violence/abuse, nor am I saying that everyone who has been affected will be offended, but I'm sure it is a factor for many.
Also, unless a comment is deliberately nasty and/or directed at a particular person, I don't think it's fair to ask them to refrain from making such comments in future (not that anyone has yet). We all have the right to free speech.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I've just read through all this and it's been very entertaining - I agree with the op that you lot are so funny. I've loved the cat stories.
I'm glad it's getting sorted anyway.
Just to add my two penn'orth; I sometimes say I could give someone a slap but I never would - it's just a figure of speech. Like if you're frustrated with someone who isn't there and you hold your hands up as if strangling them. That doesn't mean you really would strangle them.0
