OP, can you take the laptop in for the Apple guys to have a look at while he's at work? Phone ahead and ask them if they can do it for you...
He'd not know it had been done if they could fix it in a day then when he got home and you took it out the airing cupboard and tried it, and lo and behold it worked?
Might be worth a try, though I wouldn't normally be sneaky, if he's an Aspie as someone else sugested he might be, it might be be easier for him to accept it fixed itself?Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I had a claim on the house insurance last year in excess of £8000 in the end.. and my monthly payments went up by £6 a month.. but over 12 months that is not the cost of the repairs which were done.
The info is still there on the harddrive and can be rescued.. he may have the abilty/hardware to do it himself or may need to sort that as well.. but it is a piece of metal and plastic and while the stuff may be valuable.. I'd be gutted if mine died.. it is hardly worth carrying on about and shedding tears over..
Tell him I said he should have had drinks away from it if it meant so much.. and it would have been insured independantly or named as an individual item on his home insurance and backed up regularly.
I think he has reacted totally OTT and a dose of get a grip may be needed.
Why should you pay all of it? You knocked over HIS drink HE had left in a stupid place..
My OH is practically limbless at the moment as his lappy is needing a repair.. quite possibly my fault for falling over the cable 1000 times, which HE had snaked across the room.. but he isn't making me miserable over it! I might be tempted to give him a slap if he did.. these things happen it isn't like it was done deliberately.. noone has been injured, it is a replaceable piece of stuff.
He should have had it insured if it is really worth that much!.. OH's is valued at about £800 and insured.
He should check his insurance policy and if you want offer to go halves on the excess.. it wasn't entirely your fault nor deliberate!!
If it isn't covered on his check on yours.
If not he may just have to be a grown up about it and retreive the info and find a new one to buy.
but he has to accept some of the blame for leaving a drink there in the first place!
Re the laptop- well he might learn not to leave a drink beside it next time! TBH it is more his fault than yours!
Hope you sort something out!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Love these answers.
Glass of lager knocked into his laptop.
The response.
"It's your fault for leaving it there"
"and you're watching !!!!!!"
No wonder he's upset.0 -

Oh come on, odds are he has at least a little bit of !!!!!! on there, or at least a web browsing history he might not be proud of.
I'm going to tell you a little secret, plenty of women aren't all that judgemental about !!!!!!, we expect it, we understand that men are brainwashed and bombarded by it. Some of us even *gasp* have a little bit on our own laptops.0 -

You didn't disagree.
