2. Ask Orange to change your Service Plan to the High Speed Data tariff - £10 per month, no inclusive calls, texts are 7p and free access to 0800/0808 numbers. If you have any hassle with Orange customer service follow the advice given by charlie12:
Orange are stopping new signups to the High Speed Data tariff from the 1st September 2004.
So if you want to do this, you dont have much time

Thanks for the info re 0800 numbers Simax.
Do you know the situation for 0808 and 0845 numbers?
Each time I ring the Customer Service section at Orange I get a different story.
Thanks0 -
Hi Martin.
I'm on Everday 50 and I can access freephone numbers free of charge all day every day.
Regularly use an 0800 number during peak-time (i.e. outside my the time slot when I can use my free-minutes) to access the Telco overide number.
Thanks
After 2 years of using Telco as my "Mobile Override" number on Orange Everyday 50 contract without the overide number ever changing, the voice of "Moira Stewart" spoke to me when I dialled Telco 2 days ago, informing me I'd be charged at the "Standard rate"!
Frantically searching for another overrider until I get round to switching to a decent offer on the "3" network! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hi gt94sss2 / Sunil!
many thanks for that! i was just thinking along similar lines!now fully set up with 11866 on my mobile, landline calls 0.5p/min, mobiles 2p/min weekends, 10p/min weekdays...actually beats my old Telco override in every department.
I currently use 11866 for most landline calls at home. I had been meaning to switch to 11866 on my mobile for ages (it was on my "Money Saving To do List") but Ornage "barring" free access to telco gave me the shove I needed!!
Checked with Orange Customer services and calls to all 0808 numbers are free.....for now!
11866 STD Override number
Just thought I'd pass this on (just found the info on 11866).....
"(17.08.2004) New geographic access number for mobiles!
020 7001 9797... Especially for mobile users!
Some of our mobile customers cannot dial our 0808 170 170 8 number for free or use their inclusive free minutes to 0808 numbers.
We now also have a new 020 number available which can be used with your inclusive free minutes! Ring 020 7001 9797 for those who cannot ring our 0808 number for free!"

Don't even think about getting rid of Everyday 50. You'll regret it in the long run.0 -
0800 and 0808 calls from the qualifying tariffs are free : *except to known calling card numbers*.
Basically that means Orange will plug all the leaks as they find them, usually the ones that are widely publicised on the internet.
Saying that though I have been using Quip and Tiscali Smarttalk daytime extra for the last two years with no problems.
If you find Orange have discovered your favorite calling card number give the cc provider a ring as they may have others
Thanks for the mention of 18866, have just signed up for them. Will now be using them in place of Tiscali for daytime calls from my NTL landline ;DJust broke, even.0 -
Does anybody know which PAYG operators/services would allow free access to 18866's freephone access number (0808)? For example, I see Threepay only allows free access to 0800 numbers, and then only those on the "THA List", whatever that is.
I assume there's not much any of these PAYG operators can do if you want to use a landline number for override, and that there's less of an incentive for them to/less able to try and block them.
Thank you all!0 -
Sorry, that should read a numeral eight and not a smiley!0
