Could somebody answer a couple of questions please -
1) In Martin's original article - he describes using the Onetel override number at weekends and states the cost at 6p. I saw this on their site and now can't find reference to call charges for using mobile override - anyone point me in the right direction ?
2) Does the £20 credit on Onetel - go against all charges ? Just have introduced 4 or 5 folks and therefore will get £100 credit (against my mobile bill by using the override number ?).0 -
I just need to use a Mobile Override facility (free 0800) from my Orange mobile phone. I don't need to use it from my BT land line (although it might be a good idea if some calls work out cheaper). And I don't need to get cheap international calls.
This all seems a bit confusing. I'm not sure whether I should be only looking for suppliers which have a 0800 access number or whether it can still work out cheaper for suppliers with 0870 access numbers.
Can anyone clarify what suppliers of those previously mentioned I should be looking for or weeding out, given that nearly all of my usage will be from an Orange mobile with free 0800 calls ?

1. Register both your landline and mobile numbers with https://www.call18866.co.uk.
2. Ask Orange to change your Service Plan to the High Speed Data tariff - £10 per month, no inclusive calls, texts are 7p and free access to 0800/0808 numbers. If you have any hassle with Orange customer service follow the advice given by charlie12:Kris, write them a short letter stating that you'd like to switch tariff. Mention that your current phone does support HSCSD, and provide a link to a website showing that it does - ideally Orange's own site if you can.
I did this about 2 weeks ago with no problems.
If the tariff is indeed restricted to business users then you're out of luck, but it's worth sending a letter as you have nothing to lose (well actually about £1 for first class recorded post!)

3. Use Call18866's 0808 access number from your Orange phone to make nice, cheap calls. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -
??? Hi there. I have read all the orange discussion topics here, and its as clear as mud!. I am working away from home at the moment [and have an orange phone on talktime 200] can anyone tell me the access numbers to [1] call Land lines in England from this mobile at the reduced rate and [2] calls to a land line in Canada. Please just an easy to read sequence of what I have to do for these 2 particular needs. Many thanks Ian BayleyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I think you can summarise simplified (if I understand it) as
Register including mobile number at 18866 web site
Drop down to a 30 minute talk plan on Orange.
Use your 30 minutes for the most expensive calls (UK non Orange mobiles Mon-Fri - do not exceed the 30 minutes and do NOT make international landline calls which will always be dearer than 18866 access via mobile )
Use 18866 0808 (see website number) for everything else from your mobile.

Richy B Goode:
I agree wholeheartedly with what you say with one proviso:
It may be better to go for the ORANGE data tariff at £10/month - but with no free calls!0 -
I've just subscribed to 18866, surely that is the cheapest way to make calls from an orange mobile. I've checked with orange and the number you need to dial is free. Is there anything I'm missing here?? or can I really ring Portugal from my mobile at 1p per minute??0
-
When I checked with Orange they said you had to pay 10p a minute to access 0808 numbers.
I am on the YP400 scheme, is it free on other tariffs?
Cheers0 -
18866 and 1899 have both introduced 020 numbers for customers whose mobile companies may charge them for 0808 calls.

Thanks for that gt94sss2 - means that folks like me with T mobile off peak 750 can make all our calls xnet for 2p a minute at weekends - previously paid 6p through One Tel.
Starting to get annoyed 8) with Martin and the MSE's - how I am going to use all these cheap minutes ? This override has nearly made a Vodafone 200 SIM redundant - I can tell its feeling neglected.
