Thanks again COMDW - so (bear with the novice ;)) my understanding is as follows :-
1) T mobile customers can use Telestunt or similiar and get charged 10p a minute anytime whether landline or mobile if they route through a 0845 or 0871 number ?
2) How do they go about this ? Is it just ring this number and then the mobile/landline required.
3) Would be better off using Onetel no. to phone mobiles (except T mobile) at w/es and Vodaphone weekday evenings.
Apologies if this seems to paraphrase your post but just want to make certain I understand it.
What are the mechanics of using it ? If I ring the Telestunt no. get the 10p message how do I then put in the number I wish to call ?
Just a further point - Martin in his original article saysDon’t just call Telestunt direct or the mobile network will charge a fortune for the call.
but you say T mobile folk can ring directly to Telestunt - presumably because of the 10p to 0870 numbers ? Apologies once again - just would love to know if I can get away from using Vodaphone PAYG in the day then T mobile 750 in the evenings.0 -
Sorry if this has been covered before, but...
I've just tried calling a couple of 0871 and 0844 numbers through 18866 and I've only been charged 0.5p/min (it's what the automated system says), when similar numbers through One.Tel (for example) would cost between 4p and 10p.
The may be a 'mistake' in the 18866 service, but either way it may be useful for those to use with Telestunt.
In fact this could even be a way to call 0845 numbers at 0.5/min, if 0800 numbers are free from one's mobile, by directing the call first from 18866 and then Pre-Dial or similar.

To allthatmularky, yes all of what your saying is correct. T-mobile don't distinguish between different types of 0870/1 numbers according to their full pricing details which I asked for a copy of. I don't actually have any proof that the call will be charged at that rate - best to check using the online access or itemised billing to see what the call costs the first couple of times.
The telestunt access number for mobiles is currently 08719991010 - you just call it, pause then dial the number you want to call. You can program it in front of numbers in your phone fairly easily if you insert the pause.
No point using the 0845 telestunt number for landlines as its still 10p - just use the same 0871 number to save having more than one stored in your phone.
When using onetel override (weekend), be sure to use the landline access number which will come out of your free minutes, not the 0800 access number which will cost 10p + onetel charges.0 -
Most people on override are on the the international talk option for their override calls (though do check)
The telestunt number for calling mobiles is 0871 99etc
The One-Tel charge for such is listed on this page http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php/callrates/plan,internationaltalk/view,nongeo/show,8719
It is 10p/min

Just like to say One-Tel are being very ambiguous on this matter and despite several calls and an email have not yet confirmed 10p /min so those of us with this supplier should traet simply especially if on the £4.99 monthly mobile simple plan. One customer support said 20p another said it was not possible to say as it was classed as personal calling and could vary in price according to destination. Will let you know developments.0 -
I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before! But can someone confirm how much do Orange charge for the telediscount number? I'm on Orange everyday 50?
Also my gf used to be with T-Mobile however she has no moved to Orange but she went on Orange OVP fretime 750. Mobiles to other UK networks are 30p off peak 50p peak. Rip-off in my mind. However can someone with this tariff confirm its only 10p a min.
I know orange might charge more for this but with OVP would they have to match the T-Mobile rate??
Can someone give me the normal rate Orange charge and the rate they charge for OVP freetime 750?

Apologies for not posting sooner - work getting in the way again! I have called Tanzania a couple of times and bills have come through from both orange and swiftnet. Orange (ED50) have not charged me for freephone calls. The swiftnet calls were 27.6 p/m (I think!) vs 80p with orange. Have made some calls to UK mobiles in the meantime. The pause function on my nokia works nicely too so you can store the whole number in the phone. So far been happy with the service. Will keep you posted!Titch0

Hi all,
This is both a 'mobile override' + 'technical' question, but it best fits the mobile overide area!
I've thought long and hard about the possibilities of mobile overide, but more so for PAYG mobile phones.
This is 'my dream' so to speak:
Looking at the choices of communication we have available, there are a min of three:
1. The mobile phone PAYG
2. The BT (or cable) landline @£11.50 a month
3. BT Broadband voice, currently @£6.50 a month
1. You use your mobile to ring your Broadband voice line, but hang up before a connection!
2.The bb voice via means of Caller Line ID and 'some piece of remarkable comms software' rings your mobile back via 18866 at a cost of 2p off peak.
3. 'somehow' you then need 'your remarkable piece of software' to allow you to connect to your standard BT line, to 'dial out (again via 18866 or similar) ie, to another mobile, again at 2p per min!
So, by means of skullduggery and trickpokery, off peak, using your PAYG mobile its costing 4p to phone another mobile, and only 20p peak + the cost of the BB voice service (or are my sums wrong?)
Alternatively, and this is where i've been really scratching my head and looking for that nifty piece of comms software that allows you to utilise two phone lines, BT offers 3 way calling, at a cost of £1.75 a month!
Surely there must be some way we can take advantage of these ideas?
Any takers?
