greatkingbowser - the "w" symbol waits until there is no sound to enter a number. the "p" symbol pauses for a short period of time. Handy if u use a calling card or overide service which requires a pin no. to separate the access no. and the pin. I think the "*" symbol pauses for a shorter period of time.
bryzer - If you use the MSE search to find smsbug it shows how to send cheaper texts via WAP (dialup or GPRS). I haven't go around to trying it yet as the orange and o2 sims i have give enough free texts anyway.0 -
Wow, that smsbug seems pretty good. Just registered and using their 20 free credits.
Any catch?0 -
I haven't used it, but it may mean you get more advertisments.0

Ok so the texts I've sent through smsbug haven't even gone through. Boo-erns.0

[I have received to day a text massage with a mobile access number (not an 0800 no.) to call abroad I think this is the best idea at it always free in the inclusive minutes nothing to pay and no registration and connection charges to pay, try it out! Its marvels.

Complete newbie here, so not sure if I am even in the right place, but plese help!!!
Can anyone advise the cheapest way to call my husband on his mobile in Southern Ireland (he's working there) unfortunatly he does not have access to a landline. This months bill for him was £116.
He is on Orange Everyday 50 (which I appreciate is no good to him at the moment being in Ireland but he usually works in UK) and I use 18866 and am also subscribed to Telco.
Spoke to Telco and overide will not work from Ireland. Orange have informed me that calling card access numbers would be charged at the usual tarriff rate (i.e. they are not part of the free minutes included in his tarrif) this means 40p per min. Obviously for me to ring him he picks up a 20p per min charge plus my uk charge of 12p per min.
Considering getting an Irish sim card, Meteor appear to be the cheapest @ 50 cents per min to UK but that is still 35p per min (I think) for 18866 from uk to irish mobiles 15p per min (I think)
Being a Mum with two children and in the process of trying to start my own business I obviously need to chat at some length to him - any suggestions. Thanks0 -

A while ago I posted in this thread that you could get cheaper peak time calls if you were on a T-mobile pay monthly tariff such as Freetime 750. This was using telestunt to override during peak times, taking your charges from 40-50ppm to 10ppm. I've confirmed this pricing for T-mobile from my girlfriends itemised bill.
I also mentioned that Orange users on the OVP Freetime 750 plan could also take advantage of this. However I found out today from my bill that the 0871 telestunt number is actually classed as "personal services" by orange which means its 25ppm peak, not 10p.
Unless anyone knows a service similar to telestunt that uses 0870 instead of 0871, this isn't really viable for orange customers - better to switch to a standard orange tarriff and get your free 0800 calls for override.0
