  • Bad news - the call 18866 acess no (0808) has been blocked by Orange and is now a chargeable number .... Shame. Will they issue a new free number ?
  • I tried using the 1Tel(topup2talk) and teleshunt combination number for calling South Africa landline on my O2 PayG mobile, but ended up paying 10ppm for the access number as well as 10ppm for the teleshunt number - thought it would only cost 1ppm for the Teleshunt part of the call as the number is 084486 - any ideas why this didn't work ?. May have to go back to good old phonecards if I don't get a reply

Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me

Make sure you have a mobile here that is 'unlocked' (i.e. can take a SIM card from any network. Then you can easily buy rechargeable Pay as You Go SIM cards out in Spain. There are various local service providers out there which offer them and you should be able to buy them in telepeohne stores (or grages, maybe the airport also). I think Amena is one local company and Vodafone Spain is another. Check out their websites for call charges etc.
  • Where on 'Telestunt' does it give you the number for calling a mobile from a landline? ???

I've never been accused of being the smatest tack in the box, so excuse me if this has been answered before. I have a Orange phone,200 free minutes and 500 free texts for £30/month and I'm wondering if this override is only for freephone numbers. I never phone these but my bills are quite high as I phone a lot of mobiles. If it's for all numbers can someone tell me (simple, very simply!! :P) what exactly I do/phone, etc. I know no technical terms for anything, in fact I only found out recently people who work in IT work in computing so my ignorance knows no bounds!!. Thank you if anyone can help.

  • I would like to weigh in here with a suggestion for those people who call 400 mins or more to mobiles every month.

If this is you, I would suggest using all the above tips for international/landline/0870 numbers, and use your inclusive minutes strictly for mobile calls (as Martin has posted).

If your monthly spend with a mobile network is above £30 then you are a high-ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) customer and therefore they will try and keep you when your contract is up by offering you extra minutes or a nice shiny new phone. The more your monthly spend, the more they will offer. I'm sure most people know this already.

So.... Why not eBay the free shiny new phone you get? Or if you live in a big city take it to a non-chain phone shop to see what you can get for it?

The best tarriff to do this on is Orange Your Plan 400 or above with the £5 Orange Premier add-on. This allows you to upgrade every nine months instead of 12, and you even get some inclusive data (free insurance too, but you will be selling your phone, so it doesn't really count).

So... if you can get cheeky upgrades every 9 months for phones worth £250 (very possible IMHO), this halves the effective 9-month cycle of line rental! Assuming you make maximum use of the inclusive cross-net minutes, that would make the price of these calls under 7p/min!

    What do you guys think?

Previously three included calls to 0870 etc numbers in the inclusive minutes (even tho the terms and conditions stated that these calls were not included)
They have now started charging all such numbers at 10p/minute.
They were a bit naughty about this and did not warn users first so several people have received painful bills.
I have been advised that as the calls were shown as included on previous statments this may have actually overridden the previous terms and conditions - I will keep the forum informed as to how my complaint to three unfolds - however the three customer services are notorious for their lack of responsiveness.
Final question - are there any tariffs available with inclusive minutes to 0871/0844 numbers - possibly o2, Orange ovp or BT mobile?
    I think....
