Ok so the texts I've sent through smsbug haven't even gone through. Boo-erns.

a similar alternative to smsbug is vgsmail @ http://www.vgsmail.com you also get some free credits to start with to test their service out.

the advantages of using vgsmail is they offer email to sms, send sms via msn messenger, scheduled sms and lots more nice features, you can also use the vgsmail service in conjunction with genietexter, which makes sending texts from your pc really easy.

talktalk are offering free evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee, but their T&C's say ....
"11.4 Free Calls are only available to UK residential customers who use TalkTalk as their sole call provider (as far as is possible under the TalkTalk service)"
does that mean that they will stop providing free calls if I use 18866 / 1899 for the day time calls ?

No - in fact many, many people are doing just that..

Users of 18866 and 1899 will note that there have been changes in call charges within the last day or two, principally to and from mobiles.

18866 AND 1899 are still the best bnets once you have used your 'free'/inclusive mobile minutes !

I've spent 20 or 30 minutes trying to see if anyone has discussed this topic before so if I've missed that discussion please accept my apologies.

Has anyone found a way of reducing the costs of using your mobile abroad? An override number in the country that you are visiting would be great.

I've seen a topic on getting a foreign SIM card and I've made a post there asking about how to deal with having a different number when you are in a different country. Seems to me that if you are going on holiday for a couple of weeks it might cost you more money and hassel telling everyone before you go what your number in Spain will be than you would actually save.

I'm on Orange and their cost fo calling the UK is 70p/min. Just receiving a call is 30p/min. Some of the other networks are even more expensive. With these rates its very easy to chalk up a £10 phone call!

Anyone know what numbers are included in three's x-net minutes?? ie 18866's overide numbers for mobiles??

I have the 750 tariff so probably won't need to use 18866 at the moment but am planning to use the phone for business in the near future so will likely exceed the 750 mins.

I have set up my SonyEricsson T610 to use 1899 as a calling card. Now, when I pick a number, I just click more, then call with card to get the call at 1899 rates instead of Orange rates. Genius - I love SonyEricsson phones

If you do this, and are set up with 1899, it is sooo simple now to dial at 1899 rates. This will probably work just as well on other networks, just as long as you're not charged for free calls.

You'll find that any x-net calls from your Virgin phone will be cheapest via one of the 0871... services that have sprung up over the last year. See http://niftylist.co.uk/country_223_mobile.html for a selection. They'll all cost you 15p per minute flat rate on Virgin instead of the 35p that they'd charge you calling directly.

If that's too much trouble, try one of the VirginMobile bundles offering X-Net minutes for 19p or less, depending on how much you buy at a time http://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/bundles/index.jsp.

After that, the other option to reduce your X-Net calling cost is to go for one of the special offer deals that seems to come out at the beginning of each month, take advantage of the cashback, sell the handset, and possibly get a year's calls for free.
