i have a clydesdale bank maestro card. can anyone tell me if this card is covered by the same regulations as a maestro visa card is?0

Maestro and Visa are two completely different protocols.
Maestro = MasterCard's debit card network. If you mean is it covered by the chargeback scheme that Visa cards are then the answer is no.0 -
I completed the online application for a Citibank Sterling Account and at the end of the application, it responded with:
'A pack will now be posted to you. Please respond by signing the application and enclosing a cheque drawn on a UK bank account for a minmum of £1.
It then says if I want a an overdraft facility, to enclose a recent payslip.
Does this mean I have the account???? or is this just a 'send your form and then we'll think about it'?
Any responses gratefully received.
Thanks, Tony0 -
It doesn't mean you have an account yet but unless you have a credit rating worse than mine than you should be alright. I have been discharged for over a year now and hold an account with them.
Good luck0 -
Hi, i need to open a bank account with debit card as I am disabled and do most of my shopping online though I have a poor credit history. Would this be suitable for me, I only want a debit card and the ability to set upp deirect debits? I;ve been having trouble finding one as most just offer cashcards.0

Weller711.
I can recommend the following accounts, they all come with a debit card. Although the Natwest one only offers a Solo Card.
Yorkshire Bank - ReadyCash Account
Natwest - Step Account0 -
I want to say a big thankyou for the heads up re Yorkshire Bank. I went in to open my account on Wednesday. (I had to book an appointment a week before) The woman in the bank was very friendly and the setting up was a breeze.
My Maestro card turned up this morning so I can finally buy train tickets etc online woo!

I am glad someone started this issue for discussion as I have been discharged from bankruptcy for 2 years and can not get a debit card with Barclays or Lloyds.
As I reside in a small rural outbacks of Suffolk where the nearest cash point is 4 miles away across fields 6 miles by road a debit card would be helpful at the local shop. However due to only having disability income the banks seem insistant on saying that I can not have a debit card due to bankruptcy. Grrrrr
I will try the Co-OP to see if I can get a debit card on application and if successful will apply to Barclays for bank charges just to be annoying back.
Thanks to you all and I wish you all well :beer:0 -
I thought that after you have been discharged from BR, you didn't have to declare it anymore.. I was discharged about 4 years ago and when any bank etc asks me if I have ever been bankrupt I just say no and nobody has ever pulled me up about it - its certainly not on my credit files - i've checked loads of times. I'm sure you don't have to declare it but may be wrong? Does anybody else know? I want to open a basic account now with Yorkshire and if they ask me I will just say no.BYould wrote:Just telephoned Clydesdale Bank and if you have ever been bankrupt don't even bother trying to get this account.
I have been discharged for well over a year but I even didn't get as far as filling in an application as there new business team deemed me as unsuitable.
They didn't even take my personal details to come to that decision.0
