Basic Bank Account & Debit Card Update

Does anyone know if they give the Readycash basic bank account with debit card to unemployed people? Do they ask for income details or if you work when you open this account?
I have been turned down for Natwest Step account and Co-op Cashminder accounts. I currently have an Abbey Basic account which I was accepted for ok.0 -
I got asked where I work and how much I earn....but I suppose that doesn't mean they don't accept unemployed too. Give them a ring and ask over the phone before booking an appointment.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude

I opened a readycash account with yorkshire bank last week and the maestro debit card arrived just a few days later. I've put some money in the account and then I tried to use the card on various websites to make a purchase and it says that the number I have entered isn't a valid card number.
Can I confirm that the card is a proper maestro card and can be used on the internet and not just in shops where the card is physically present?
I've not received the pin number yet so it might be that once I put the card in a cash machine it will activate it.
Has anyone used this card online?0 -
Most likely that the card is simply not active.
Leaflet that Clydesdale Bank sent me said that my Maestro could be used online etc, and it's on an under 16's account so presume these basic accounts are the same.0 -
Just telephoned Clydesdale Bank and if you have ever been bankrupt don't even bother trying to get this account.
I have been discharged for well over a year but I even didn't get as far as filling in an application as there new business team deemed me as unsuitable.
They didn't even take my personal details to come to that decision.0 -
Further to my recent post I found it strange that I have been accepted for a Citibank Sterling Current Account, the cheque book arrived today and the visa debit card is in the post. Work that one out!!0

I have this account and card and its worked everywhere I've used it. Online, phone or in person. Yours must simply be not active yet. Meastro is the replacement name for Switch so there shouldn't be a restriction on where it can be used.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude

Does this account require you to have your wages paid in to it?Debbie0 -
No but you have to earn over 20k a year to open it. I have opted to pay my wages in though.

I have just tried to get one of those bank accounts and i have been told that relevant paperwork will be in the post , down side is that as one of the proofs of identity they want me to send a cheque made payable to citi bank from an account i am supposed to aready have ( cheque account). So to cut a long story shory you have to have a uk chequing account to get this account
