...just to add. I went into apply for this account on Tuesday afternoon this week and this morning (Friday) my card arrived! Very fast service. So far it seems a very good service considering Halifax seem to take ages in comparison to send out cards...and plenty of other companies for that matter.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude

So if you have an overdraft you can overdrawn using your Maestro, if you do not have an overdraft again the Maestro will not let you go overdrawn.
Aaactually, a Swich (now Maestro) card meant that the store in which you used it would not automatically check your balance for a purchase under the store limit, say £50, which meant that even if you did not have an overdraft you could go overdrawn. Use of a Solo or Visa Electron means that your balance is checked with the bank to ensure there are sufficient funds to meet the transaction, no matter what the purchase amount was."Think for yourselves and allow others the privilege to do so too." Ahem. Just realised that someone else had already said this, and much more eloquently than I did. Just goes to show I should have listened to my teachers and read the whole thing before jumping in with both big feet..."Think for yourselves and allow others the privilege to do so too." Voltaire.0 -
Can anyone tell me if someone with a really poor credit rating can getnthis yorkshire bank basic account and thatn there's definitely no credit check?? (Don't think I would pass!!)0

There is a credit check, but only to confirm your identity and status. The account is for people with very poor credit or those just wanting a basic account.
I should think you would have no problem getting the account, unless you have been bankrupt.
Hope this helps.0
