I'd like to take back my advice earlier!! I thought it might have been something like babies sleep pattern or something! Again I dont think she should have said something where people could know who you were......and again congratulations on DS!

I would ask to speak to her first, to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak

but if what you have heard is 100% correct, I would be livid, especially if it being for coercion

The girl that told me is a complete stranger. I'd never met her before today so for her to know who I was just because of what the midwife had said, would suggest to me that we've been spoken about.

My wee boy has got Down's and she's been warning all the mums that their kids might have it aswell as a way to force them into getting the AFP(?) test if they don't want to have it.

I feel that that, is just wrong.

that is so very very wrong on many counts.

It's wrong to discuss you and your child, it's wrong to try to influence mothers to have a test they don't want, it's wrong to portray you in a negative light.

It wouldn't be so bad is she were telling them not to worry about having the test because you're all doing so magnificently, you're a wonderful mum, baby is flourishing etc. etc. but she's making it sound as if they must have the test as it's the last thing they would want.

Sorry, I would report her, there's no doubt it's you and your son she's talking about, she has no right to use you like that.

Tbh I would be more worried that she is pressuring them into getting the test because she feels they shouldnt go ahead if the test proves positive?

peachy said it so much better then i did

Midwives are bound by their code of conduct, part of which is a confidentiality clause, which your Midwife has broken by discusing you with other mums. Also it is up to the individual to decide whether to have certain/any antenatal testing done and not for pressure to be put on anyone. You could speak to the midwife concerned or contact her employing hospital and ask to speak to the manager, or the PALS office. If you want the matter to be dealt with formally, you will need to put it in writing. What she has done could well be a sackable offence.

TBH I wouldn't care if she was sacked. I told her everytime I seen her that bubs wasn't moving as much as DD did and she told me I was too fat (which yes, I was a stone or 2 overweight but I'm not massive) to feel him moving...she needs to be kicked into touch

The thing is though, I came back low risk so the test can't be that accurate anyway :undecided

The consultant told me that my wee man is 'remarkable'...so he must be doing well :D

I'm sure she's aware of patient confidentiality! It's part of the NMC code of conduct.

She is able to discuss, even write a book if she wants, on any of her patients, but without giving away any information that makes them easily identifiable
Obviously that's not the case here

Has her discussion about you or your child with others potential parents upset you at all?
Or are you just a bit annoyed she didn't ask your permission?

I would first seek an apology from her.
If that doesn't work take it further
If the NMC get involved she could be in a lot of trouble

Are you seeing this as a chance to get even? If there is past history hear, be very clear when you complain about the facts in this case. I dont think it would help if you made your personal dislike of her evident.
