  • Hey hey. I haven't got out into the garden yet. not with the camera anyway but I have been looking at it differently and 'framing' shots which has made me smile! I can't complain but I have been working all day every day since starting work last week so am either at work or exhausted!

Have had an inspired crafty session though - utilising vintage finds to make cards, canvases and pictures for craft fayre on Sunday. Bit nervous as doing it with a friend who is a professional sew-er and I'm just a chancer. No idea how to price things but just want to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Have it in mind to run a Christmas stall at school as made a bit of money doing that last year. Have got some ideas about what to put together just need to get my sewing machine sewing.

Read from page 90 in Memorygirls diary and check out the blog that goes with her new challenge. (if you need a distraction from the phd:))

She has written books about study techniques, mind maps and speedreading. I've just ordered my book but I read a Tony Buzan mind map book recently, just the small, really simple quick read one but it seems like a very useful idea.

I'm sure you're probably best finding out from memory girl happy, but I use them for shopping lists, to do lists, planning holidays, planning what to do in the garden, making decisions... soetimes taking notes on the phone (but I don't always find that very useful) all kinds of things!

Oh gosh no. Memorygirls friends over on her thread seem to be mind mapping their lives out. I just mentined the study because CheeryDaff is doing a phd and I'm supposed to be studying too but I haven't really done any although I have bought lots of nice folders and a book on how to use mind maps for study:rotfl:

    Woo hoo!

Inspired by lots of other people doing decluttering/sorting life etc, and by the fact that I've got this PhD to finish and want to do it properly and well, and by the fact that I challenged myself to doing it in 100 days, then promptly forgot all about it, but looking at my planner I see I only have 77 days left  I thought i'd best pull my finger out! :rotfl:

So yesterday, and today, I've been putting my 'working' CD on (kind of ambient 'aboriginal' music, nature sounds and digeredoos), it runs for 40 mins, which is a nice amount of time to concentrate on work before needing a break :T So I've been doing 40 mins of work, then 15 mins of something else. Yesterday and this morning the 'something else' was largely wading through some of memory girl's thread :rotfl: :o

But just now I decided to tackle the enormous pile (ok, 3 piles, on the floor, each standing about 2 foot high) of PhD paperwork and nonsense that sits by my desk under the window in my little attic.

In only 15 minutes I've tackled the first 2 and most of the third one! :T Ok, so now I have several smaller piles instead :rotfl: But the biggest one is for the recycling bin! :T

SOOOOO much of it was scribblings on bits of paper saying 'god I hate this bl**dy PhD' :rotfl:, or old drafts of chapters with supervisors' notes etc, which there's no reason to keep at all, as I'm now working from the original copy that I handed in at the end of last year. So they're all in the bin pile. I've got a pile of library books that need to go back (I'll do that tomorrow), a pile of stationery to reuse :T a few bits that need filing in the office, and a large space under the window! :T

Wonder if all that was sapping my energy and creativity???

Going to put the CD on again, then the 15 mins after that I'll spend finishing off the third pile, putting the rubbish pile in the recycling, the books ready to go etc etc. :T

Then another 40 mins work, and the 15 mins after that I *might* just take a bin bag to the wardrobe  I have a bizarre range of clothes, but was lying in bed this morning and could see my favourite jeans, which I love, but which are TOO SMALL <sob> and which have tears all the way round the bottom so the legs are nearly falling off :rotfl: So they need to go (probably to fabric stash - might cut them into bits so I don't keep trying to wear them!) I also have a fab pair of red cords that might meet a similar fate - the bottom is almost see through :o :rotfl:

Not sure it's time for new clothes, but I'm feel rather podgy and frumpy at the minute :o Which I'm not, I'm just 1.5 stone heavier than I'd like to be, but not really overweight, and the way to lose weight I've found is to feel GOOD about yourself, not like you're spilling out over the top of your trousers :o

Right, PhD first, then paperwork, then wardrobe later. Looking forward to it! :rotfl:

It's strange really, the effect MSE is having on us. I turned up here in January to read bargain alerts/grabbit board (I still do) but now I'm using it for motivation and to inspire so many life-improvements. Isn't it great that we're doing all the stuff now that other people sign up to in January:T
