Daffy's 'a nice cup of tea cheers you up' diary

Evening all, tired today :coffee: Ah, that's better!
It's been a long day, and not a very MSE one I must confess...There's been rather too much shopping for little bits of food this week - including buying a bit at work the other day (including a jar of red pesto I couldn't resist because it was reduced to £1.50 - that's NOT a bargain!) Also a *little* bit too much of being tired on the train and buying a 70p KitKat, then buying another one at the station to get me as far as home..
Today, I've had a lovely dayBit of mini charity shopping, and met a friend who used to live close but now lives in Belgium, and who I haven't seen for yonks :j So that was lovely, although our planned cup of tea turned into 5 hours of chatting  Then just as she was leaving, another friend whose husband is in hospital rang needing tea and a chat, so back out again to meet her. Then time to go and weed this silly garden for the LETS woman!
So I'm exhausted. And I've spent FAR more than I should have done:
£2.50 on red and white polka dot shirt from charity shop - Mr Daffs and friend MADE me do it (and it does look rather good with my new Shredded figure) :rotfl:
£5.50 on tea and croissants for me and Belgium friend :eek::eek: Don't know what possessed me! But she's just lost her job, and doesn't really know anyone over in Belgium, and it was a nice treat for us both
£1.20 on another cup of tea in the same cafe later with a different friend
Anyway, that was just today, and is outrageous! I now have a grand total of £1.81 to last the rest of the week for food/unnecessary purchases
(and there was me banging on about sticking to my budget! :rotfl:)
So - a severe pulling-up of socks I suspect! I won't be able to stick to just £1.81, but I will be able to spend NOTHING tomorrow and Friday, and Sunday, and hopefully not very much on Saturday. I reckon we've got pretty much enough food, but Mr Daffs likes going shopping (!) and usually 'just pops in' for a few things every day  Might have to have a few words this week...
On Silly Car front... that car I emailed about yesterday, and got that silly reply saying it wasn't their car and I'd need to ring the number to sort it out? Rang the number 3 times today - phone switched off :wall: Left a message, but I'm not holding much hope of hearing from them. Need to see it tomorrow really, preferably in the morning - and we'd need to leave at 8.30am...
(looks like they already sold it once - and it went for about £900. Wisebuyers website say they should be going for around £650 at that age/condition, so will have to have another think if we don't hear back )0 -
My, my, that was a gloomy post, wasn't it??? :rotfl: Can't be having that!! :rotfl: So instead, here's a cheery list of all the cheery things that happened today, and that I'm grateful for:
* lovely MSE and friends :happylove:
* helped an old lady do her garden for a couple of hours - she was very grateful :T
* spent 5 hours talking to a lovely friend who I miss very much! :j
* had approximately this many cups of tea: :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::whistle:
* did day 7 of Shred without falling over :j
* cycled for about an hour
* had lovely chat whose husband is in hospital
* *finally* got round to booking dentist appointment for filling
* have a lovely red dotty top to wear!! :j
* thanks to Shred, can do up and look quite good in lovely red dotty top!! :j
* chatted to a friend in Scotland for a while this evening
* hands and arms smell rather fetchingly of lemonbalm after I pulled lots of it out of the lady's garden (seriously, there was *loads*, but it does smell nice!)
* realised I've got £3.67 in my paypal account that I haven't withdrawn! :j that'll pay for my new dotty top then! :rotfl:
Er, that' might be about it for now, but still, not a bad list! :j :j
Mr Daffs is out for another couple of hours, so time to do some more secret birthday activities. I always get really wound up at this time of year - I worry so much that he won't like what I get (he has rather, er, distinctive tastes that I sometimes get wrong...)So I get wound up that I'll do it all wrong
So I've made a list, and made a start the other day, but I'm going to get at least one thing ordered tonight and each of the next few nights and STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHETHER IT"S RIGHT!
First I think I'll put the kettle on again :coffee:
Then order this present, just one, don't want to go overboard!
Then because I've got the house to myself, I'll curl up on the settee with The Edible Garden and my knitting :j :j
Hope you're all up to something cheery today!

hey cheery, you did have a lovely day and i like the way you can see all the good things. Ooooh your evening sitting knitting and watching tv sounds wonderful, especially with a cup of tea thrown in too.
Right I must go to bed as I have to get up so stupidly early.

That A-Team van is just the best thing ever. I :heart2: it. I could never drive something like that myself though for 2 reasons:
1)It would attract loads of attention, every other motorist on the road would stare at it. I'm happier to blend in (in a boring silver ford focus)
2) It's big and I'm not great at parking
The red polka dot top sounds lovely too. That and the £4 jeans have me inspired to give the local charity shops another chance.
Sounds like you had a great day and really nice of you to do that lady's garden for her.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
Thanks Mags! Hooray for charity shops I say! :j
We blatantly aren't going to buy the A Team van - just got a bit over excited there!Partly because it's too small (!).
Very pleased with myself this evening :j Just spent a couple of hours deciding and investigating presents for Mr Daffs' birthday. I find him quite difficult to buy for, probably because I completely lack imaginationand partly because he's so particular :rotfl: I usually end up being a little bit disappointed with what I get. Doesn't help that he's fab at getting/making me presents! (maybe I'm just very easy to please!)
So now I've got a list - with 16 things on!!
But that's good! That includes:
5 things to inform
6 things to adorn
3 things to entertain
2 things to consume
:j not being more specific than that in case he finds it! :rotfl: Anyway, so far I have only actually made steps towards acquiring one of those things - Best get cracking!0 -
Morning Cheery - I like what you did there, stepped back and realised how much you had to be cheery about - I do that myself now (tho you wouldn't think it from my diary sometimes
) even tho we're in tough times financially, there's a lot to be happy about :j
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Afternoon all!
KC, you're right - I'm going to look back and think to do this whenever I'm grumpy and horrid! :rotfl:
PhD today, and some washing, and car hunting, and visiting friend in hospital. Came home and was tired and a bit fed up, and Mr daffs went to have a nap, so instead of sitting and feeling sorry for myself, I did day 8 of Shred! :j :j :j Very pleased with myself, and feel rather better! :j :j :j
So 2 more days and then I can weigh in, and go up to level 2
Looking forward to it actually, I'm ready to do something a bit different now! :j
Today's ebay/car palava - that bloke I emailed the other day, and he said car wasn't his and I needed to ring the number? Rang 3 times yesterday, phone off, so I left a message. Wanted to visit and test drive today - but it's at least an hour or so away, so need to check first obviously and arrange insurance etc. Rang again this morning, and someone answered the phone! But said the car wasn't his (!), it was his son's, and he was at work til 2. Rang when we got out of the hospital at 3.45, and son still wasn't home. Said to ring back at 6. I explained we wanted to see it today, and were miles away, and he said to ring back at 5.
But then I was in the middle of Shred at 5 :rotfl: So I'll ring in a minute <yawn>
But I must say I'm increasingly skeptical - why put a car on Ebay for 3 days, but don't let anyone get hold of you to ask questions?? And they wonder why the first person who 'bought' it was dodgy?? Grrr!
<and b--r--e--a--t--h>
:coffee:0 -
They sound Arthur Daley type dodgy! So glad you're enjoying shred, and feeling the effects of the endorphine rush2023: the year I get to buy a car0
-
Deffo Arthur Daley type dodgy KC! I wouldn't be bothering if I didn't really quite like the car, and the place it's in (just hankering after a day out really!) :rotfl:
HOWEVER - I just rang, and the phone is switched off, AGAIN. So I'm afraid I left a rather shirty message, which will probably not encourage them to ring back :rotfl: Then, as if that wasn't enough, I sent an ever so slightly shirty email too
(Mr Daffs doesn't think I was shirty, so it probably wasn't that bad! I just pointed out that I was really interested in the car, but didn't seem to be able to actually speak to anyone about it, and if somebody could let me have a contact telephone number for the person who was actually *selling* the car, that would be really great, as neither the email nor the phone number in the advert seems to belong to them...) Was that rude?? Should it really be this difficult to actually *buy* something???? Surely they *want* to sell it??
Actually, maybe they don't - it's already been relisted due to 'dodgy ebayer' - maybe that was actually themselves??? :rotfl:0 -
