Morning!
Woo hoo Day 9 of Shred just finished!! :j :j :j :j Had to do it in two parts cos Mr Daffs got up in the middle and made pancakes - not sure that's the idea, but still! :rotfl:
Still not heard back from silly car man I was 'rude' to yesterday, unsurprisingly. However... now got my eye on a (shock horror!) silver berlingo that has (and get this) pictures of guinea pigs on the front :rotfl: I'm besotted already! Going to see it tomorrow hopefully, and the woman has already replied and sent a nice message with a little x at the end - a good sign!! :j
PhD today though - haven't got the excuse of a car-seeing trip, so best get on with it!0 -
sounds like a good sign if it's got guinea pigs on the front. Hopefully this may just be the one.0

That's exactly what I thought LT! Can't be bad if she likes guinea pigs!! :j :j (oh, and she actually replied to my message - which I'm ready to take as an excellent sign!!)0
-
yaaay for the guinea pig van!!:j0

We want the guinea pig van!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
-
Yes, we want the guinea pig van too!! :rotfl: But not holding my breath after all the previous fiascos... Just waiting for the woman to get back and tell me how many miles the replacement engine had done when it was put in... And then we'll have to arrange to see it, and everything will have to be in order, and then we'll have to actually *win* the darn bidding, and then we'll have to collect it and bring it home, and only *then* will I believe it'll actually happen!!
(still trying to breath deeply after stupid conversation with stupid insurers who've let me cancel the van insurance (good job, really, since van isn't even on the road any more, and certainly not in my possession), but not the breakdown cover.
Perhaps I should ring them and try to get them to rescue me from the scrapyard?? :rotfl:
(also a bit annoyed that they've taken £67 for the privilege of not providing my insurance any more! Pah! They'd best not do the same with the breakdown!)
Anyway, deep breaths, think of the guinea pigs :rotfl:
Best get on with PhD for a bit now... Cup of tea anyone?? :coffee:0 -
Phew! A *tiny* bit of PhD done
And a whole lot of sitting on the phone to the doctors and insurance companies - bleurgh!
Docs don't answer the phone when they say they're open - but when I did get through the woman was lovely and put in a repeat prescription request even though it was outside the 'right' hours - good job really since it's for beta blockers, and if I'd run out over the weekend I would have been officially Very Cross on Monday! :rotfl:
Eventually managed to speak to insurance company - rather bizarrely, if you cancel your breakdown cover, you don't get a refund, but you don't need to replace the car within 7 days (like with the insurance), so you can just leave it running and add a new vehicle when you get one. Much better! We only took it out in May, so cancelling with no refund isn't good! So that's one less thing to sort out. I'm sure cover would be cheaper with a car, but if we weren't going to get what we refunded paid back, that works out cheaper anyway.
Busy trying to get quotes (optimistically!) in case we win this cheery berlingo... Turns out it's only about £20 a year cheaper than insuring the van!! Not entirely sure why, as it's 6 insurance groups lower - but maybe they're more geared towards newer cars?? Tried taking me off the policy leaving only Mr daffs, who's been driving for over 20 years, is homeowner, and hasn't an accident or traffic offence to his name, but it only took £20 off... Ah well!
So financially for the new car (let's just assume we win the Berlingo for now!):
Breakdown cover: £0 til May 2011
Insurance: £230 (ish) for both of us for the year. Refund of £92 coming from old insurers, so need to find £138
MOT: covered until Nov 2010
Tax: covered until May 2011
So immediate costs are just the £138 for insurance, but we've got £150 of our old tax on the way, so that'll more than cover it! :j :j
Then there's just the small matter of paying for the van :rotfl: Currently got about £1600 saved up between us, and this one shouldn't go for more than around £1200, so fingers crossed... That leaves a little bit to either replenish the holiday fund (!), or go towards the MOT in November, although my half will probably go straight towards paying back Mr Daffs since I want to get it out of the way!
(but I mustn't run away with myself!! I'm still waiting to hear back about tomorrow, so it could still all go pear shaped!)
It's difficult this - you have to some extent get a little bit excited about something to bother going through the rigmarole of checking out reviews and arranging to see it etc, but then to have it all go wrong so suddenly feels like a bit of an emotional rollercoaster! :rotfl:
(silly one who wouldn't reply to my messages finishes in half an hour - he still hasn't got up to the price we were willing to pay for it - I hope the winner messes him around again! :rotfl: In fact, if I was very naughty, I'd be tempted to set up a new account, enter a hugely overinflated bid, win, and then just vanish myself :rotfl: - although I won't, of course, I'm not that naughty!)0 -
Oh for goodness sake! No need to do what I just suggested to silly ebay man - just (finally!) had a message saying 'THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD DON'T BID!' - 15 mins and 44 seconds before the bidding ended... :rotfl:
Have to shut down the computer now and go and do something else to stop myself from replying 'I HAD NO INTENTION OF BIDDING SINCE YOU COULDN"T BE ARS*D TO REPLY TO MY MESSAGES YOU F*CKW*T!'
But I won't :rotfl:0 -
Cheery! I think I might well translate a reply to said f*ckw*t in that nasty-polite tone - what a stupid f&ckw*t that bloke must be! I love the word f*ckw*t :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I'm sorry for repeating it so many times, but it feels like I'm in a sequel to Bridget Jones when I do
:rotfl:
