:j :j <yawn>
Had an absolutely lovely time, grand to see everyone, out of £20 budget i spent £20.85 - on train ticket and dinner, and drank only water(still got banging headache!)
Was 'complimented' by a nice young man in the street who said I was 'tidy' (not convinced he was talking about my housekeeping skills! :rotfl:) and had what started out as an interesting conversation (and rapidly went wrong) with a very drunk Desperate Dan look-alike in a bar on Canal Street
Him: 'how much does a polar bear weigh?'
Me: (slightly bemused, but always willing to go along with a conversation involving polar bears :rotfl:) 'about 22 stone?'
Him: 'enough to break the ice! I'm Chris'
Me: Oh dear. that was dreadful :rotfl: :rotfl:
All fun and gamesNice curry, and got train back with a bloke I haven't seen for a couple of years, we never got on and were joking at the beginning of the night about one of us having to upgrade to first class so we didn't have to sit together on the train home :rotfl: Sat together all the way back and had a lovely chat, and a hug at the end of the night
Hot chocolate and bed now - thank you all for encouraging me to say yes to a fab evening!:T

Hey daffs
so happy you had a lovely time and on budget too, you rock!! lol to the desperate dan man, that's got to be one of the worst chat up lines I have ever heard.
So what are your plans for today? WI tea and cake? I'm off to pick my new car 'Lilly' up today, so very excited!!
Hope you have a lovely day and will check in later xx0 -
Ooh, picking up Lilly Missy! How exciting!! :T :T You must be over the moon
I must confess to laughing and laughing at the chat up line :rotfl: Told Mr Daffs when I got home - who also burst out laughing, said 'I would have punched him!' (which he blatantly wouldn't :rotfl:) and then we had a rather amusing conversation about how he *would* have got rid of somebody like that if he'd have been there, which largely involved saying 'oh, you want to talk about polar bears? Did you know their hair is transparent? It's actually very rare for a polar bear to break the ice, since their very survival depends on *not* breaking it. Do you remember the Cresta advert from the 1970s? Here, let me sing you the song...' :rotfl: :rotfl: 'Chris' would have found himself unwittingly embroiled in a lengthy and very detailed conversation about polar bears (and believe me, Mr Daffs can talk fascinating nonsense - about any subject at all - for a *very* long time :rotfl: 'Chris' would have been wishing he'd never bothered! Much more effective than punching him I think:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'm almost sorry he *wasn't* there!!
So yes, WI in a bitThen crafts and cake at a friend's house this afternoon. Then off to this free swing (DANCING) night tonight - although as yet Im going on my own! But I know one person there, who is very lovely, and she knows lots of others, so I'm going with sociable talk-to-strangers-and-have-a-good-dance head on, and I'm sure I'll manage a couple of hours at least!
Have a good one the rest of you
xx0 -

I've just sat here with a cuppa and read a lovely blog post about belonging. About pushing outside of your comfort zone to do something you love, and how to deal with feeling a bit intimidated by others who've been doing it a long time.
It's on this blog, and it's post from 1st October, called 'belonging' (won't let me link directly to the post, sorry!)
I was just quite taken with it, as in the past I've often been scared of something, particularly if I think other people will think I'm just 'playing' at it. I don't really do anything musical these days - ironically enough because everyone around me is a musician:rotfl: And I'm dreadful at going to places and feeling like a tourist
Well, no longer I say! I shall embrace my newness, sidle up to people and listen, as suggested, and maybe even bake a few pies0 -
Oh cheery what a lovely post - I feel alot like that lady - not belonging but trying so hard - I admire that she listened and learnt - what a lovely blog thank you for sharing it!
you clever girl!
