Pregnancy's Best Kept Secrets

I'm now 19 weeks pregnant with my third baby.
Reading this thread has brought back many memories (good and bad)....however, one thing they don't tell you is that it isn't the baby kicking, it's wind!!
A few nights ago I watched what I thought was my baby's foot travelling from my right hand side to my left, just under my ribs. It wasn't until much later that I realised my womb hadn't yet risen above my navel and what I was actually seeing was the action of my transverse colon (sorry if tmi!)
Oh, and another thing...take it with a pinch of salt when they say second and subsequent labours will be 'much shorter'. My second wasn't - it was longer than my first! Now, this might be specific to me and my circumstances, but they were sure that things would be much quicker.
Funny thing is, they haven't mentioned it this time....
And going back to the earlier post re: teeth, I'm pretty sure that if you have an underlying problem with your teeth and/or gums that things will become obvious when you're pregnant. I had a root filling two weeks before I found out I was pregnant - it's taken quite a while, but it's now finally settling down. I think the hormones must effect the blood supply to the teeth and as the immune system is slightly suppressed due to the pregnancy, this must give bacteria a bit more leeway to do what they do. Just my thoughts on it really - I'm no expert!
Anyway, I hope I haven't put anyone off!!
Take care

I have never had strong long nails except when I was pregnant. They looked lovely sadly a week or so after giving birth they all broke.
Also for anyone who suffers arthritis all my pain went during pregnancy apparently this is common especially with rhuematoid arthritis.
Strange as it may seem I assumed my labour pains would be in my tummy but all my pain was in my lower back and was awful. It would be worth noting that you should make sure there is petrol in your car. when I went into labour we had to stop at the local petrol station and OH had to wait in a q to pay I was in soo much pain i was blasting the horn for him to hurry up I think he was to polite to ask the people in front if he could skip the q :rotfl:February 2013 NSD - 40 -

dancing butterfly check out the pregancy club http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1215121 for M/s tips although the best advice is if your losing weight/ not able to keep anything down see the doctor and they will prescribe anti-sickness drugs which I am reliably informed do work
Also every pregnancy is different, I'm on my 2nd and my sickness is much worse/stared earlier than with my first one. Its different for every pregnancy with every woman so go for it0 -
oh dancing butterfly i had the same, its the one thing thats putting me off sprogging again in quick succession. i've known 3 women aside from me who've had sickness that bad and 2 of them have had it with all their children and the 3rd says she will never do it again. don't know why i've told you that - its not very hopeful or helpful is it!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I didn't realise that when having contractions that the baby would still move around, kicking - hurts like crazy... guess I just thought the baby would get into position for delivery and stay still... silly now I think about it properly, but it really surprised me when in Labour!tying hard to cut down grocery shop bill...0

I was on 3 different types of drug, one after the other, from 18 weeks as I kept getting dehydrated.
They did work to some extent - I was sick less often. But they didn't stop me being sick altogether, nor did they stop me feeling sick....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow with my first and I love this thread. Far from frightening me out of my wits its calmed me down and made me no longer fear the birth like I was. It just good to know the reality of what might happen. Thanks to everyone who has been posting on here its very much appreciated!
I have to say I have no horror stories so far and in fact its been plain sailing. No morning sickness (gosh I feel awful for those suffering so badly), the occasional cramp, a bit of wind and i'm no longer able to watch TV till 3am like I used to (there was never anything on anyway and my new favourite the baby channel stops broadcasting about 9pm)! I have to say that I did another pregnancy test today (3 weeks after the first 7) because I've not had any symptoms and got frightened that it wasn't real).
Anyways, keep the stories coming - I need another 7 months worth to keep me going!Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0
