  • has anyone had any teeth issues whilst pregnant, we are going to start TTC soon and its one of the things that bothers me as I have never had so much as a filling as I am very paranoid about losing my teeth! (although reading these posts I think I may have a lot more to think about!)
I have family members who have had abcesses etc after having their baby and had teeth pulled etc.....is it the norm?

Hi Pamela, The only problem that may arise with your mouth in pregnancy is with your gums. The change in hormones can make them bleed more. You just need to floss and brush well and you should be fine. Some people do not suffer at all. As for all of a sudden needing a filling unless you increase your sugary food or cannot brush well due to morning sickness you will be fine too. Go and get a check up before you concieve as xrays are normally avoided when you are pregnant. Try not to worry. I am hoping to be joining the TTC club soon ...

  • Glad to hear it - my mother kept telling me (having had 4) "it'll go by 12 weeks!" And it didn't.

I lost weight during pregnancy - I could hardly eat anything, and the smell of cooking was the worst thing.

If you have food poisoning etc, you throw up - and then feel better. With pg sickness, you throw up, feel sick still, throw up, sulk....

I never even threw up luckily! But I had the feeling that trying to make myself sick wouldn't relieve it at all. Good job I didn't try!

I thought I was the only person I knew who lost weight :p Lost half a stone in first Tri and can't put it back on. Midwife thinks it'll go back on later in pregnancy, although I don't really want it to because I've bought some maternity jeans that won't fit if I get fatter ;)

(Of course the bump will be alright as it's got all that stretchy material at the front!).

Anyway back to best kept secrets.

Hair growing on stomach & face. Probably been mentioned before, but I'm beginning to look like a gorilla now thanks to my wonderful pregnancy hormones :rotfl:

I've had a lot of tender gums, but no problems that require any dental work. Had a check up at 6 weeks pregnant and all seemed fine. I thought it was an old wives tale about losing a tooth for every baby? Probably stems from bad oral hygiene in the olden days ;)

I have been a 'viewer' on these forums for quite a while but have only today begun posting, i have never seen this part of the forum before, i was just wondering (i'm sure somewhere along these 49 pages i will find my answer when i start looking) if anybody suffered from a PPH (Post-Partum Haemorrhage) and has gone on to have another child?

Sorry for the long winded post ladies, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine had a post partum haemorrage and had to have a blood transfusion and she successfully delivered a 2nd daughter a few years later but I don't think she had any of the other problems you mentioned.
I would try the pregnancy or TTC boards with your question as somebody there is bound to have more experience of this x

  • no one told me you have fore and hind waters, my fore waters started leaking at 7mths with DD and no one picked up on it, it wasnt until i was 8 mths and had a scan they found the waters had gone, my placenta had stopped working and was breaking up, that DD had stopped growing and things were looking pretty bleak. i now have a happy 9 yr old. i also bled for 12 weeks after her and ended up with a womb infection and had to have an internal scan.

with DS i went 2 whole long weeks over due ( why dont you get told how painful braxton hicks can be!!) when i was induced i got told by the mid wife what a big head my baby had( wanted to cry). DS decided he couldnt wait till i was fully dilated and decided to come at 7cm, so i had the mid wife with her fingers there holding my cervix out the way while pushing this big headed baby out and i kinda accidently peed all over her( oh the pressure lol) to top it off i had a male trainee paramedic watching everything from the gory end.

oh and just how dangerous chicken pox is while pregnant i was 15 weeks gone when i had them.

no one tells you how fuzzy and warm you will feel when you pee on a stick and get a positive result though and how you feel when you feel the first flutters of your baby kicking i cried with happiness every time!!
that said 2 kids are enough for me!!!

  • I thought I was the only person I knew who lost weight :p Lost half a stone in first Tri and can't put it back on.

I was a bit overweight before I got pregnant, and 6 weeks after Isaac was born, was a stone lighter than I had been a year earlier. I then lost another 1.5 stone breastfeeding, so overall, pregnancy was great for my figure!

Not really worth it, though, the sickness was horrible.

It's not normal, I think, although it can happen. It's a good idea to visit your dentist when you are pregnant.

I have no fillings or missing teeth or anything either, and I'm 31 with a 3 year old. My Granny used to say, "lose a tooth for every child"!

I think multiple pregnancies can put pressure on your teeth - maybe calcium shortage?
