Ah, what a great thread, so many memories...
Having a room full of midwife students watching the midwife attempt a new knot with my stitches...
Having comedy boobs which could squirt over several metres (v impressive), getting DH, baby and anyone else in close vicinity soaked as soon as they were 'released'...
Had DS2 at home while standing up and walking round in cricles with the midwife trying the get the baby and getting tangles up with the umbilical cord..
Having DS2 on Christmas morning (and still going to mum's for lunch) - priceless.0 -

God I'm totally traumatised after reading this.
Me and OH have talked about having kids but the thought of getting all huge and giving birth terrifies me.
He is 6ft 4 and 19st with massive shoulders, whereas I am a size 8 and very small built. I'm terrified I'd end up giving birth to a 10 pound bruiser and end up all...split.
I honestly think I've got a pregnancy phobia and feel very selfish because we have been together four years, I'm nearly 30 but have no maternal instincts at all.
I think all you mams are wonderful but I just don't know if I've got what it takes.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
Don't worry Princess Jane...I'm the other side of 30 and the biological clock still hasn't started ticking. Think somebody forgot to put the batteries in!!! Thankfully no pressure from OH as he isn't particularly interested in having kids anyway. Kind of think that if one day the biological clock does decide it exists, by then I might be ready and brave enough! Although reading this thread may have killed any chance of that!0

People constantly thinking they are making 'polite' conversation by helpfully reminding you when you are 38/39 weeks pg, 'ooh not long to go now then'
Hubby told me to tell the next person who says that 'well actually I have decided to wait until christmas' :rotfl:
Princess Jane I was a size 8 before getting pg and I have put on a stone and a half. But that includes the baby, bigger boobs, extra blood and so on. Nothing really! It is a myth that you HAVE to become overweight when you are PG, or that just teh mere fact of being a Mum makes you overweight.
I have got smaller after each child, gone from size 14 after dd 10 years ago!
I don't really want to get any smaller after this one cos i would have to buy new clothes!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

You sound like my hubby and I. We thought of having children but the thought of giving birth terrifies me. Due to medical reasons I have to have a section if I ever get pregnant.
Hubby and I have been married 10 years and I am 31, I knew him since I was 11. There is a lot of twins in hubbys side of the family which makes the thought of getting pregnant even worse and when I was born I weighed 10 lbs 4 ozs!!
I agree with you I just don't know how mums do it. Three of my sisters have had children and when you see them a few hours after they have given birth they still look and act the same, they are not exhausted or complaining of pain, I just don't know how they do it. Where as when I hear they are pregnant I am panicking and when they are in labour I am exhaused at the thought of what they are going through!!I have a sister pregnant at the moment and she is due in March.
Perhaps some day I will get brave and get pregnant but don't hold your breath!!0 -
I sat for a couple of hours last night and read the whole of this thread...I was laughing my head off ~ OH thought I was nuts!!!
I'm pregnant with my 3rd now and the only thing I haven't seen anyone mention, is varicose veins in your undercarriage.
When I was in labour with my daughter, one of the midwives was seeing how far I'd dilated, and winced as she looked down there ~ she asked me if I was 'sore down there'. I said No??
She said my undercarriage was purple and told me that it was varicose veins from the pressure of my daughter, YUK!!!!!
It went back to its normal colour by my 6 week check up thank God!!
I had to laugh at the women who had made weird involuntary noises while pushing their baby out.
That happened to me with DD, I can only describe the noise like a cat on heat....one who had smoked 40 a day for 20 years.
Having my son was a piece of pish, seriously. I was induced over 2 days and just had dull cramps. The 3rd day they broke my waters. I had an epidural and didn't feel a thing, apart from a slight stinging sensation when I pushed his head out. And I did it all alone too as I didn't want anyone in the room with me! (Well apart from the midwife)Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
i have 4 kids and when i was having my youngest, who didnt want to come out so had to be induced, nobody told me that it would be more painful than naturally going into labour, everything was fine for the 1st few hours then it got really bad within half hour.I kept telling oh and the midwives that i couldnt do it and they wouldnt beleive me,when having a look oh face went white and he called the midwives over and told them there was a hand sticking out to which the midwives said "oh,maybe she cant do it" and we will have to grease her up! i told you i screamed lol he came out eventually only after loads of students and doctors and other midwives had come in to have a look at the freak show,i told him how he came out like superman,he thinks he is nowDD1 27/5/1992
