Just glad you have been honest to say it.0 -
DH and i love the name Ophelia if the new baby is another girl {DD is called Scarlett}. We are a little worried if people can pronounce it or if it a little too strange.
What do you guys think?
For boy's we like Xander, Daniel and Tom. The only other girls name we like is Aveve which is also unusual.:pOldernotwiser wrote: »Aveve sounds like an insurance company!1.11.09 - debt = £45k:eek:

I like Ophelia. I'd be a little concerned about playground teasing, on the grounds that quite a few of the fictional ones have gone mad (Wikipedia has a list). However, when kids are at the teasing stage they probably won't be too up on their Shakespeare or their manga, so I doubt it would be a problem.
I doubt you'd have any trouble with people spelling/pronouncing Ophelia, but I think you would with Aveve. I googled Aveve because I didn't know how to pronounce it - I still don't know, but I did find a Belgian biochem company.0 -
I like Ophelia as well. We had real trouble picking a name for my daughter but once we'd decide on one we kept it completely secret. I tried to persuade my mum that we were going with Ludmilla, and she wasn't sure whether I was serious or not right up to the birth :rotfl:0

Ophelia is lovely (as long as your surname doesn't turn it into a joke along the lines of 'a feel of ya' Bush!)Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I think Aveve is out unless i have premonitions of the baby wanting to work in insurance or a bio chem company :embarasse.0

I agree Ophelia is a beautiful name and really don't think teasing will be an issue as most kids will not know of it's literary connections (possibly they will have a giggle if they study Hamlet, but that happens with any name that comes up IYSWIM).
You might like to consider how it might be shortened, either by you or by schoolfriends eg. Fifi and whether you would be happy with that, although you can't really do much about what she likes her friends to call her when she is older.0 -

Ophelia is a very pretty, strong name, although for the life of me I can't see how anyone could possibly mis-pronounce it.
Sorry, I don't like Aveve at all, is it a made-up name?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I think Ophelia is a gorgeous name and I really like Aveve too until others pointed out it sounds like an insurance company.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

It is kind of made up i really like Evie and Ave but it's getting a bit too common so i though of Aveve as a bit of both.0
