I suspect "Charlotte" is going to get a massive b***ocking for this!

I've been on this panel for some time as a Lloyds customer and the communications have generally been pretty good.

Perhaps the move to recruit HBOS customers is not working so smoothly
  • Certainly seems genuine, the email was first passed on by a mail server at Vovici, which is an online survey company. It seems HBOS have contracted them to provide this service - but the format of the email is terrible, and does look a lot like a common scam. That said, mine was Dear (FULL NAME), as in it has my real full name, which is what led me to start looking into it!

Here it is mentioned on Halifax's actual website: http:// www halifax co uk/HelpCentre/meandmymoney.asp.

Mind you, in my opinion Halifax's online banking site doesn't look genuine either - I even double checked the SSL cert as it looked so bad!

Or perhaps with Lloyds Banking Group making many of its IT staff redundant and outsourcing their jobs to India (or anywhere else they can find a cheap labour market) security isn't what it once was and a member of staff has done what was suggested above and passed on addresses.

If you weren't happy with your bank's call centres in India, how do you feel about all your personal banking details being there?
  • The originating IP on my 'charlotte' message 206.132.28.88 indicates it came from Vovici Corporation in US, not a LBG specific address, so is it indeed phishing?
  • I'm with lloyds and got it today.
Did much the same checking as everyone else has - and came up with the same sender details.
Suspect it is legit - but extremely badly done.
forwarded it with my observations to the lloyds bank email scams address and suggested that yes I did want a reply.

Hello to Lloyds Bank - you do monitor these forums don't you!
Can you try a bit harder in future to get it right.

Yep - I've just had one of these too. Terrible, idiotic attempt at marketing then! I'd have junked it straight away except that it uses my full name with middle initials, which alarmed me and a search brought me here. I hope they read this thread and realise what cretins they are!

Yes, I too got the ‘Charlotte’ email this morning which was delivered into my junk folder. Like many others here, it was odd to get junk to the email account that it came to so I thought it must be specifically targeted from some database that I have dealt with before, however as others have noted, it looks fresh from the 419 arena.

This prompted me to Google it and sure enough this thread comes back with the goods.

For me it originated from the Halifax, and even when followed up I don’t get what would motivate people to sign up to the survey, no promises of a grand prize draw or a £5 credit to your account etc. Simply “the opportunity to tell us what you think”.

Well, this thread mightn’t be a bad place for the Halifax strategists to start rather than paying Verve.

I might have completed a survey if the option was there when I logged in to check my account, but when you apparently have to sign up all over again with a company that you already have a relationship with and then on the first page of registration you are told:

By providing your e-mail address you will be agreeing that you are happy for us to invite you to participate in future surveys.”

Hmmm, perhaps I’ll give this one a miss.
  • Just been on to LloydsTSB and was assured it wasn't sent by them. It was, however, sent to an email address that I only gave to LTSB and I use a "catchall" account to receive email sent to that address. I have never sent anything from that address. If LTSB are correct in saying that they have not leaked my address then a scammer has guessed very well. The technical department had no idea how it could have been leaked and referred me to their privacy policy which is fine if it is adhered to.
