@"the root of all evil" (Original Poster) and anyone else: If you think an email is a scam it is not a very good idea to post any links from it on this or any other forum. Why spread what you think might be a dodgy link and put others at risk of clicking on it?0

Got the same'ish email this morning and it's terrible, as has been posted. I was about to junk it as it has the appearance of a scam but I decided to search it here first.
When I go to the website It has 4 options, clicking through to one of 3 banks, 2 of which i bank with or "register here" when i click on register it merely opens a blank email in my outlook, that's it....
Talk about poor communication. I'd be interested if they'd actually tell me what the hell it was all about with abit more detail.0 -
I'm here because "meandmymoney" has the hallmarks of a spam scam. Instead, it's a project of the Lloyds TSB group. The trouble is, it's just incredibly clumsy and amateurish.
If you make a who.is search, you'll see that meandmymoney.co.uk is registered by Lloyds TSB Bank plc. If you visit the following web page, you'll see what it's about.
www [dot] meandmymoney.co.uk/LBGPortalaccess/tabid/6666/language/en-US/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2fdefault.aspx
The project is managed by an entity calling itself "Verve". For an organisation that professes to help us manage our financial affairs, they have a lot to learn.0 -
Thanks for all this confirmation. I've had the Charlotte email into my Junk folder - the first time I've ever had spam to this particular email account in 5 years! It could only have come via the Bank of Scotland :mad:0

Just another 'me too'. Gmail thought it was spam. I agree.

Just had one as well. For some reason I doubt this is legit. Firstly because there is no mention of why the recipent was "selected" (e.g. you bank with LloydsTSB / Halifax etc), no name (Dear <blank>), and there is a spammy-looking tracking image at the bottom with a UID ref, which spammers use to test if an email address is live (someone is reading the emails they send out). Also, no opt-out link.
That said, looking at the domain info:
webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=meandmymoney.co.uk
It seems to be legit, not because of the registrant's name or address (both can be spoofed), but because the nameservers are pointing to LloydsTSB's servers:
Name servers:
ns2.lloydstsb.co.uk 193.34.230.73
ns4.lloydstsb.com
ns5.lloydstsb.net
So either:
1) This is a very clumsy, unchecked marketing message from a legit bank, or
2) The domain and website are legit, but a spammer is using it as a cover to check for live email addresses
Whichever way, I didn't opt in for it, and so I've reported it to spamcop and I'll let their ISP resolve it.0 -

I believe it's the former, since for me, it came to an email address halifax@MYDOMAIN.etc which has been used nowhere else but on the Halifax on-line banking site.
True, but it's not unheard of for DBAs or developers who work at a company to mine out email addresses and sell them on when no-one's looking.

I suspect this message is a big mess-up by LlloydsTSB - apart from its clumsy greeting it is also, technically speaking, illegal.
All marketing emails sent by UK companies should include name and physical address of the sender and also include information on how to unsubscribe going forward.0 -
Hi, I thought it was a spam email for the reasons already given, but then noticed it had been sent to an email address I only used with my banks, and I have never received spam with this address before, so I think it must be from one of the banks I have an account with. If not I shall be furious that someone has obtained my email address from one of these banks. If it is genuine it doesn't inspire confidence and I certainly wouldn't use the link.0
