Thanks for clearing that up. But I am guessing new claims for IS should now be made for Child Tax credit? (in this case) My IS was stopped and I was told to claim Child Tax Credit, must have been about 4 years ago.
  • she has been getting income support since 1994 for her child, i cant understand why she wasnt changed over to child tax credit. Is child tax credit just another name for income support. Its confusing as she was getting the severe disabled premuim in the imcome support. Friends have said that trying to claim child tax credit is very hard to go through the process

no its not its really easy, I did it online and it took 10 minutes, I received payment in my account within a couple of weeks. If you sat down with your daughter and go through the process with her online then there shouldnt be any problems, but you must honest with them about ALL money she has coming in so she dont gets an overpayment :)

I agree, it's very easy...it must be the smallest & easiest benefit form (IMO) I would claim that asap.
  • does anyone know the website to claim child tax credit. What does IMO mean? I may have made her situation worse by applying for a new claim for income support. They said that with her incapacity and dla overpayment deduction she is over the limit for income support

Sorry, IMO is short for In my opinion.

I think you will get info you need here

I don't think claiming income support should make any difference to this claim.
  • i really am confused what child tax credit actually is for. She doesnt receive the highest rate of dla or attendence so on that basis maybe she will be entitled to child tax credit, but if she doesnt qualify for income support why will she be entitled to child tax credit. On income support she was receiving around 80 pound a week on income support. Sorry if i sound a bit stupid but im concerned if she claims anything and gets it wrong it will make more of a mess

I received child tax credits when both my husband and I were working. The thresholds for claiming this are much higher than benefits like income support. You need to look on the hmrc website and read through the section on child tax credits.

the IS money was for her AND her child, if she applies for child tax credits then that will be payment for the CHILD only, if she then applies for IS (if she is entitled) then that IS money will be just for HERSELF. IS no longer pay for the child, I think its only the people that have been on IS for quite a few years get the child element still paid by them.
  • thx, things are looking a little clearer, i have loooked at the child tax credit and it looks as though her child may be able to get some payment. what happens with the housing benfit if she revieves child tax credit. I feel like throwing the towel in with all this.
