    Hi Saver 1.....
My O2 handest did not need unlocking-but you may need to install the WAP and MMS settings on your phone- No worries as these can be sent to you from the giffgaff website....
Please read my post above regarding MMS texts.....these are chargeable in all instances-Also, you need to have credit on your phone in order to send them- This needs to be 'bought' credit and not 'goodybag' credit. I found this out to my cost and I doubt I will carry on with my giffgaff payg once the half-price goodybag offer i was attracted to expires....

The Goodybag minutes and texts have to be used within 30 days, but i believe any credit you purchase has no expiry on it provided you use your mobile a couple of times in a 6 month period. If you don't use your mobile in 6 months then all credit is lost.....

    hope this helps you decide?

No, just credit £10 to the account. Once you are signed up you can use that £10 credit to buy a goodybag. I used £5 to get a goody bag, leaving the rest as credit once the goodybag expires.

    but still only paying £10?
  • still debating on this, guess I have to get the phone and decide, but also guess nothing to lose.

    Hi Stphn

    GG say:
    Free numbers:
We also believe that a free number should be just that, so all 0800 and similar numbers really are free.
So 0808 numbers should also be free

    18185 say:
Especially for all NTL, Telewest, other non-BT landline and mobile customers we have dedicated the freephone number 0808 1 703 703* for cheap international calls.
It's worth experimenting - let us know the outcome.
18866 & 1899 may offer cheaper rates - they offer the same type of deals

Does anybody know how internet pricing will work after 1st October?

    They say:

You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the 1st of October 2010. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB).

but will there be a minimum charge? Will it be rounded to the nearest 1p?

For example, if I just use it to check my email once a day (say 40KB) will that cost me 1p per day, 20p per day, something else?

    Update: Just found this:

    http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Ask-the-community-got-stuck/mobile-internet-tariff/m-p/23900/highlight/true#M11821

I'm not sure how reliable the answer is though.

Be very careful before you switch to giffgaff. Firstly, sending MMS texts are NOT included in the Goodybags....you have to buy credit on top. So much for the 'unlimited' texts......On O2 for instance one sent MMS reduces your balance by 4 texts.....I was caught out by this as I was attracted to them by the 'half-price' goodybags with the unlimited text deal-and it certainly doesn't make it clear on the website that MMS are not included..

Siimilarly, note that 0845 numbers aren't included in Goodybags. If you don't have vanilla credit, you won't be connected when you dial a 0845 number. If you do have credit, the call will set you back a tidy 20p a minute

Remember that saynoto0870 is your friend. Anyone remember the days when you just dialled the number you wanted ?

Other expensivo numbers that are (presumably) excluded from Goodybags are:
Making Premium calls (per min or per call) 80p to £2
Sending Premium texts 10p to £1.5
    Directory Enquiries £1
    Special Services 20p
    Corporate numbers 20p
    0871, 0872, 0873 numbers 20p
    0843, 0844, 0845 numbers 20p
    Personal numbers 20p
