Just to set the balance right. It much depends on your usage. You'll find they are like any other network when it comes to voice and text, e.g. it works. Internet services on the other varies between all networks and some people will depend on their connection more than others. Outages are inevitable and are carried out by O2, GiffGaff are unfortunately at their mercy as a virtual network, so you can't really blame them.
I used to be on 3 a few years back, lots of people moaned about customer service, data speeds, etc... During my time with them I only called 3 a handful of times and yes there indian call center was bad, but the general network service was pretty good and I had little trouble with it. So swings and roundabouts.
Similar story with GiffGaff...it works fine most of the time and I rarely notice any outages in terms of signal lost etc. I don't expect their service to be 100% reliable or data speeds to be the best in town. Even when their internet went down for a day, there were other means to access the net in the mean time...I can live without data on my mobile for a day. I guess those that threw a wobbly are those that Facebook or Twitter all day.
I was tempted by the recent Chitter Chatter sim only deal for £6pm, which for a low user is probably better value than GiffGaff on PAYG without goodybags at the moment, but then I consider the out of contract costs and lost of free calls to freephone numbers and other benefits of GiffGaff and it draws me back. For the sake of £4 difference compared to their £10 goodybags I gain more in return.
Your decisions should be based on what works for you in terms of cost and reliability and what you are willing to tolerate. GiffGaff works great for me currently, who knows down the line, they may get worst or better, only time will tell. But the bottom line is I'm saving heaps compared to most PAYG tariffs and sim only contracts out there and I'm grateful for there existence.0 -

My son has. It's very cheap and there's no danger I'm going to get a big bill.

Many people here have. Just search the board for giffgaff.
What's wrong with using the normal name, especially when you asking for some information?0 -
Have a search under the correct name GiffGaff.0

what network transmitters do they use. as i am wondering if they are any good.
as i was thinking if everyone in the country was on giffgaff they could call each other for free. and get unlimited texts for £5.
if they are any good i might start off the revolution they are hoping for by getting everyone i know a giff gaff sim.0 -

IMO giffgaff is just a very clever marketing gimmick. Clever enough that some users are almost evangelical about it.
Not only does it run on the creaky O2 network, it IS actuallly O2 as they're both owned by Telefonica.
So on one hand you have giffgaff and their supposedly unbeatable deals, and on the other you've got O2 and their dreadful new rip-off tariffs.
It's just swings and roundabouts.0 -

Indeed 02 have been very cleverly with GiffGaff and its marketing - They have made it seem like an independent company that cares about that cobblers its users post on their forum when it reality 02 are rubbing their hands together that they have captured the under 18/Can't get a contact/Light users market - The first 2 being very lucrative markets.:dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21
