well done to everyone.
usually i run in the mornings but as it's nearly 4 weeks i surprised myself by getting the motivation to go out last night, when OH got home and looked after the kids (its the summer holidays here).
i did week 3 and managed it! so my fitness hasn't gone completely down the drain, thank goodness. I also managed to run with the dog on the lead, so she is my new running companion. I'm tempted to go out again tonight, i'll see how i feel.LBM 04/10:j

I completed Run 2 from Week 3 this morning
Got up and my ipod was out of charge and then thought I won't go then, but I won't go after work either so I did a quick charge up and then set off. Was hard work but did it and then felt much better afterwards
Thank goodness I did it, feel a little achey today in the shins, so better add in some stretching before and afterwards from now on as the walking as prevented this so far to warm up and cool down

Hi guys. Completed week 5 run 2 today and totally surprised myself. Hit a wall in the first one and when it came to the second 8 minute run I was throwing an internal strop of the "Boo. I don't want to start runing again" variety. Made it through the last 8 minutes and didn't want to stop when I was done!!! I wanted to keep running!!:rotfl:
Anyway, 20 minute run next and I'm pooing my pants. Any advice from the more seasoned runners? How can I silence the wee voice in my head that keeps begging me to stop?0 -
sarsief- I think it's me you mean about the taking it slow, fedupandskint had a grand run, twas me that was finding it hard.
And I will take it slower, thank you.
Hoping to go for my week 3 run 2 soon, waiting for the husband to get home. Have preped our dinner for when I get back and the boys are in bed. Quiet house which is very unusual.0 -
Week 3 run 2 all done. Found it a bit easier which I am well pleased about. Thank you for all the helpful advice.0

Won't be running today:( Only had four hours sleep. On my second cup of coffee and still only feel a bit human. I am so glad I don't have to go to work today.
In danger of not hitting the targets for my heart monitor. I thought I would tell you what my targets are and those of you that have bought the basic version could if you wanted to adjust them to use yourselves. I have to do 2 hours and 10 minutes in zone 1. two hours and 35 minutes in zone 2 and 50 minutes in zone 3. It is set to maximise fitness and I am I suppose quite old (nearly 47) It is the zone two that is really difficult. It's either a really fast walk or a very slow run. It really works your stamina in this zone and the targets have increased as I have got better at reaching them. I think if you go on the polar website it will explain how you work out what your personal zones are by using your resting heart rate.
My poor hubby who is really quite fit has to do over 4 hours in this zone and 7 and a half hours in total a week:eek: Anyway I still need to do two hours in zone 2 before Sunday night. If I am feeling up to it, it might have to be a fast walk later on.
Well done to schoolhouse, sleepytiger, cazmcf (welcome back) neilersmc and fedupandskint.
Sadly sleepytiger I don't think there is any magic way to get rid of that little voice.;) Most of us still have it. just remember the goal that you have, i.e. what you are running for, get fit loose weight etc etc and then think this is the only way to get there.. Running is great... but mostly once you've done it:rotfl:
As for hitting those long runs sarsief's advice is spot on. You must really slow down. It is more important for the first few times to make the time than it is the speed or the distance. You build your stamina first and then the other things follow. If you try and run too fast and don't make the whole twenty minutes you end up feeling really bad but if you run the whole time no matter how slow you will feel great:D I have been posting since the couch to 5K thread one and if you look back at some of them in my early days old grannies would totter past me as I ran....they wouldn't catch me now;)
Good luck to everyone running today.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -

Haven't posted in a while but I've been running when the weather had been bearable. Just been for a lovely late night run with my brother - perfect weather for it, nice and cool and wind-free!
Managed to 5k (with a couple of 20 second walkie bits), which is the furthest I've ever done0 -
completelylost you and I run at the opposite ends of the day. Welcome back and well done:j
I was out at 6.00am today as I have lots to do this weekend. I decided to run on the opposite side of the sea inlet on the sea wall. It isn't a circular route so I decided to go for half an hour out and then half an hour back. I had to keep in zone 2 to feed my heart monitor. This now feels so slow it is comparitively easy so I did not bother with the "interval" and kept going. The route was interesting and included 4 styles. Not sure I kept up the pace over them but it added an interesting dimension to the run. Also I had to keep dodging the sheep poo. Must have a word with the farmer about going out with a few doggy bags!;) After the fourth style there were sheep as well on the path. Even with my slow running it was clear that I was quite scary as far as they were concerned and as I had been going for a good 40 minutes by then I took pity on them and turned round and came home.
So I "ran" slowly for 42 minutes non stop. Then power walked home. I still have probably an hours exercise to do to meet my heart monitors targets so I will have to try and squeeze in another walk later. Good luck to everyone running this weekend. Skintlass I shall be looking out for you postEnough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0
