Hey, thought I'd jump in on the thread now you've a new one.

I'm working up to running 5k (but most of my routes are measured in miles, just to confuse matters) but have been doing it without following any real training plan, mainly alternating runs of 1 mile, 2 miles and 3miles depending on how much time I have after work. The general aim is to obviously do the 3 mile one in a decent time - at the moment its taking me about 41 mins, while 1 mile is taking 8-9 mins.

Got a bit unmotivated with it lately so off to download the podcasts to see where I am on the plan.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Morning everyone. Did week one run one of the gateway to 8K run today. It was four 8 minute runs with one minute imbetween. I'm not sure why you go back to intervals but it was really interesting I ran a lot faster than normal. I know this because my 5 minute warm down walk is usually still on the fens but this time I had to go round the block near my house because there was still time to make up. Strange.
The music was even more pants than Roberts. I think the technical term for it is Tecno(?) but it did make you run to a beat I suppose. There was no encouraging voice telling you ,you were doing well and to tell you when to run and when to walk there was this noise like someone banging on a xylophone. Those of you old enough to remember the Britas empire, just like when they made an announcement over the tannoy, those of you not that old, think railway station or airport;)

Come on everyone......those of you going through a bad patch...think it is only temporary you CAN do it:D

Teachergirl, I am old enough to remember, I used to love the Brittas empire!! I am also old enough to remember hi-de-hi, is it a bit like when Ruth Madoc made an announcemnent :)

Am due to do Wk 4 run 3 after work today, its chucking it down at the moment though and so far I havn't had to run in the rain...not sure if I am up to it :o I suppose I could go to the gym, I am not a member any more but think I can still 'pay as you go' it might be time to do it now as I do my weekday runs on tues and thurs and don't want to deviate from it.

Drea, completely lost and mumto2, you have all done so well, just keep on getting out there....

    69chick it's exactly like that :D

It wasn't quite raining here when I ran and I don't like it either. I figured I was going to have to have a shower anyway. Go for it!

Hi everyone...well i managed to complete my W2R1 last night. I never thought i'd be able to run 90 secs but i did. I actually managed to first 3 reps okay. The fourth one was up hill and i think that really tired me out but i did manage to finish it all. Rally pleased with how its coming along.

I havent listened to the podcasts but did use some music of my own. Think it was a bit slow so i need to put something faster on there but it was better than no music at all. Good luck eveyone who has a run today x

    Wow, new thread!

I am still in Week 6, I hope - I am hoping to get to the gym tonight for a run and will see how much I was set back with my illness. I think I would be lucky to manage Run 2...

Can't wait for the "training computer" to arrive, but I don't think it is going to be here soon, probably couple of weeks.

Did my wk4 run2 this afternoon, luckily no rain!! I don't mind the idea too much of the rain, it's just that I wear glasses and its really annoying when they get wet + I might end up in the canal if I can't see properly :rotfl:

I do have some contact lenses that I can put in, so if it is raining I might put them in...would like to try the gym too though as I was thinking maybe 1 run a week I could combine with a bit of weight training....

I was actually really surprised that I managed the runs today as my first go at it was with dh and I thought that I might wimp out if no-one was with me to see :p anyway I feel great and am happy with this week, but I do think next week might beat me...will give it a go though...

My thighs are killing me from my runs yesterday (1st day of the Couch to 5k application on Iphone) - oh the shame!

It said I had until Wednesday though... thank god!!!

I can't believe I am in so much pain! Shows its helping though!

Its half term right now so will be going swimming tomorrow with little one, but I wont be able to swim.. just try and teach her as I am taking her to the gym and its not a fun pool...

I will do my run either before my husband leaves for work, or when he comes home...
