I did week 1 run 1 yesterday and have week 1 run 2 lined up for tomorrow.

Having dabbled with running in the past, I was pleased to find I wasn't as unfit as I was expecting to be. Haven't run in about a year!
  • Just a quick question, do any of you go jogging on your lunch breaks at work? I could but I'm concerned about feeling dirty sat back at my desk (no shower at work etc) I'm determined to get trough this but I'm a single parent, work full time and so don't have much time to myself to do this regularly and once a week when DD is at her dads really won't build up y stamina or endurance
I wouldn't go running in your lunch break it will be too much hassle. Might be worth investing in a decent treadmill so you can do it around the kids. I love running outside but it is very difficult with 3 young kids and a full time job and what with the weather it all conspires against you to stop!
My nice new shiny treadmill is being delivered on Friday as I hope to step it up from 2 or 3 times a week to a daily run as there will be no reasons (excuses) not to.

I don't, but then I can't, my lunch break is just half an hour. I don't think I would even if I had longer, by the end of a run I'm definitely in need of a shower and would worry I was starting to smell if I was sitting in work for a few hours without having had one.

Hated going out tonight, it took me about half an hour to prise myself out of the door. I think I might have started a bit fast as I was knackered and gasping by the end, but I still managed to speed up a lot for the last minute. Probably was punishing myself for having tried to make excuses not to go :rotfl:.

My lovely supportive bf came with me (he's played football for 22 years so über fit) and at the times I was saying "I can't breathe" or unable to speak at all he would reassure me this was normal and as long as I'm not on the floor I'm doing well lol. His motivation seemed to work as we trebled the run and did approx 5miles (still jog 90secs walk 2mins) and I made it home in 1 piece!

I hope you didn't overdo it!

Well that's me finished . Week 9 run 3 completed :j.

I don't know how you run at all in the heat Kiwi. I struggle if the temperature gets above 20C and much prefer to run in the cold. I definitely find it easier to run outside than on the treadmill - I end up far too hot with a face the colour of a tomato.

Big pat on the back for you Jacky, you have done so well. I much refer running in the cold too; it's not all that hot here most of the time - not at least until February when summer kicks in proper. 26c is about as hot as it ever gets, so came as a bit of a shock and already they are a talking in terms of 'record breaking' temperatures on the weather reports.

I know how you feel, it was another very warm day here today and I felt so tired: I had to do battle with myself as to whether to go out or not. I came home with a raging headache, so I took some tablets and decided to go out but not to push myself too much. I made it to 15 minutes reasonably strongly and seemed I had run faster (further than usual in the time). I started flagging at 20 minutes and forced myself to 25 minutes by counting backwards but could barely walk faster than a snail on the cool down walk afterwards. :D My sunglasses got all steamed up!!

Week 1 Run 2 completed. I'm using an app on my phone for recording it, and it looks at all your stats, even now I've increased the distance I've run and the pace I'm running. Looking forward to my next run.
  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I'd love a treadmill however I have £0 to spare and no space for one! I prefer running outdoors anyway, I get to see beautiful views (I live in the Lake District). I get half an hour lunch break too, but I can literally set off from work down a quaint little track and turn back t halfway point. They wouldn't mind me getting sorted for 2mins before and 2mins after. Plus there's always deodorant haha. If I go at 1pm I can run until 1:30pm and only have to work until 3pm.

What app do you use? I use mapmyrun it's free to download. It looks at the split distances and gives you an average speed and also the calories burned. It records your routes so if you want to compete against yourself you can.

  • Was going to start week 9 last night but had an incredibly bad day so would have set myself up to fail.

Onwards and upwards, let's do it tonight :)

It's called Rundouble? you get 2 weeks of the c25k free then I think it's like £2 for the rest. It's really good and I will be buying the rest after i'm done with week two.

It also connects to Myfitnesspal so you can track together.
  • I've never heard of that. I have c2510k for free unlimited. Mapmyrun is free too. Might be worth having a look if it saves you money?
